Mistakes and accidents are unavoidable. They're part of our lives. But don't worry, this isn't an insurance ad. It's a piece on the subreddit ‘That Looked Expensive.’
It's an online community, where people share photos, gifs, and videos of mistakes, accidents, catastrophes, and disasters that cost a small fortune.
We're talking a supercar storage catching fire, children knocking over a $70K sculpture, and many more hilarious, er, I mean, costly mishaps. Continue scrolling to check them out and take a look at Bored Panda's earlier article on the subreddit after you're done, too!

Ohhhh That’s big money, Big, big money… Like $64 million of big money. That poor technician is going to never live it down. I bet he gets calls 10 years afterwards “Hey Neil, how are you? I was just remembering that day when you pressed the wrong button and fired that Vulcan canon at the F 16?? Neil: dammit, after ten years?? Let it go, I have Caller: Yeah you let it go buddy, that’s exactly what happened!! Neil: heavy sigh
I assume the author put accidently in quotes in error. Many people use quotes (which implies sarcasm ) when they meant to put it in *asterisks* to show emphasis. I am not sure though.
Load More Replies...Vulcan shoots about 1300 bullets a minute. That makes almost 22 a sec... Now im curious what he did...
20mm cannon fires 4,000 rounds/minute; 30mm and 40mm "only" do 3,000. The old .30 cal minigun did 6,000.
Load More Replies...I would surmise that the WoW was overridden as the weapon was under test, and it was a failure of the crew to either unload the weapon, or load dummy rounds.
Load More Replies...No sweat... the government will just happily add more money to the military budget.
I would call that a success for both tests. The cannon works and is really effective!
That poor F-16, just sitting there minding its business. What did it ever do to you?
I heard speaker the other day say that in reality, there are no TRUE "Accidents". There is always a cause and effect. Something or someone has done something that led to the outcome that is being called an accident. Interesting train of thought.
There had to have been several points of failure occurring before the technician showed up for this to have happened.

The lesson to take away here; if you buy a McLaren, take a course on how to handle it correctly...
The lesson is that you don't buy a McLaren because even when you know ow to handle it, someone else will crash into it. Or when you store it safe the whole place will burn down. So you see the McLaren, you don't buy and just walk away and buy yourself a bloody Kia for 1% of the price of a McLaren

What I've learned is never buy a McLaren and having a fancy car basically means it's going to start on fire or get me into an accident. I'll stick with my Honda, thank you very much!

#7...those straight-line Iowa winds. tore the roof off a building I worked in and didn't have to work for a week because of it. best part was that I got paid. the early 00's were great for that kind of thing with a very large company. that was also the straight-line winds that sent a silo roof flying a mile and landed on a car. it wasn't totaled though just took off the back bumper. it was an almost perfect landing.
I'm sorry for mother nature and sorry for the people who lost loved ones. This was so depressing to see but like a car accident I couldn't stop watching. I'm embarrassed about myself.

The type of person that has the money and would want a McLaren/Lambo/Ferrari is also the type of person to drive it like an asshole and not care about the cost of destroying it.
None of this even comes close to the most expensive accident in history, the Chernobyl reactor meltdown. Nor the most expensive conflict in history, World War II. Though these are at least possible to laugh about, as opposed to being wide-scale tragedies highlighting the failure of humanity as a species...
World Wars aren't small failures with relatively big impacts. Their dynamics are immense and hardly start at one specific point in time. They are huge mistakes with huge impacts. Chernobyl was enormous and also not just one person making one mistake. There were structural problems in understanding what the huck they were doing. This list is mostly about stupid small mistakes that end up with a big price tag.
