“We Are Not Waiting In That Line”: Mother Karen Boldly Steals Another Customer’s Drinks For Her Kids To Try Out, Learns To Regret Her Decision

Interview

No one is safe from weird mix-ups that happen now and then. Were you in a hurry and took someone else’s luggage? Got your neighbor’s mail? Accidentally took someone’s food order? But what if someone does that on purpose and even admits to doing so just because they wanted to try it out first? At least that’s what happened to a Reddit user @u/Jus10sBae who shared their encounter with an entitled mom who thought that it would be a smart idea to take someone else’s order and have a taste before ordering something for herself and her kids. The story that might make its readers’ nerves boil received more than 4k upvotes, revealing the outcome of this weird yet funny situation.

More Info: Reddit

Mixing up someone else’s order with yours is a thing that might happen to anyone

The author of the post started the story by sharing that in their workplace, they often order coffee from Starbucks and takes turns on who will go and pick everything up from the place and bring it to the office. That particular day it was OP’s turn. So when they came up to the coffee shop to take the order that was made online, they saw that the place was full of people. Even the barista that OP already knew explained that they had to wait due to this unexpected rush of people. Having some time, the author of the post went to the bathroom.

Reddit user decided to share a situation that happened to them in a coffee shop that included an entitled mom and her two little daughters

The author of the post went to a coffee shop to grab their order but were informed that they’d have to wait a but longer

After they came back, they saw their order, but someone else was already grabbing it. Seeing this, OP went to the woman who took the drinks. She wasn’t alone, she was sitting together with her 2 little daughters, one being around 4 years old, and the other around 8 or 9 years old. So they approached the woman and explained the possible mix-up. However, the woman didn’t want to let go of the order that easily as she thought that her kids at least should’ve been allowed to try the drinks first, as they didn’t know what they wanted. This is how OP found out that the woman haven’t even placed an order and just took their order.

Once their order was ready, they noticed that a woman grabbed it and so they went to take it back

After an unsuccessful attempt by the customer and even the barista to convince the woman to give the drinks back, the author of the post just let one of the girls try out the “chocolate” drink that was actually “8 shots of espresso over ice with some almond milk and a drizzle of chocolate syrup”. Of course, after this, the little girl didn’t even think of trying another sip and ended up spilling the coffee all over her mom who then rushed out of the coffee shop. This story made a lot of people online question such entitled people and even make some jokes about how the mom should’ve struggled to handle a kid that just had some caffeine.

The mom of two didn’t want to give the drinks back until her daughters had tried them first

Very often such stories might be hard to believe because once we realize that they are true, it becomes upsetting to know that there are people who are so entitled that they dismiss anyone else’s needs. Bored Panda contacted Reddit user @u/Jus10sBae to find out more insights on the matter. The Redditor revealed that they weren’t surprised to see so many people being interested in the story as they “followed that subreddit for a while and knew this one would probably get a good amount of attention considering how outrageous it was.”

After a long discussion it was revealed that the woman hadn’t even placed an order yet

Image credits: HermanCheah (not the actual photo)

The little girls also were restless and wanted to try out drinks that weren’t theirs

After a while, the author of the post decided that it would be a good idea to let one of the woman’s daughters to try out the drink

The user also shared that they were glad that others online believed their story as sometimes such situations are called fake and made up. The author of the post themselves read similar encounters and didn’t believe that there were people who would behave so horribly until they met the lady in the coffee shop. But does this entitlement have anything to do with being a parent? “I wouldn’t say people become more entitled once having kids. But I’d say they often become bolder as they can use the guise of a concerned parent to mask their entitled attitude,” shared OP.

Everything ended up with the little girl gulping a coffee that was made of 8 espresso shots and spilling the same drink on her mom

Image credits: Yuval Haimovits (not the actual photi)

No matter how absurd or funny situations like this appear, the sad part is that young kids who are exposed to such behavior might grow up thinking that this is how they can treat other people. But is that always the case? The Reddit user expressed their opinion that parents’ behavior certainly has an impact on the way their kids are going to behave once they’re older, sharing that when they worked in customer service, they saw how kids mimic their parents’ behavior. “It’s both sad and disgusting to see,” concluded the user.

What is your take on this situation? Don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below!

People online found the story to be hilarious knowing how entitled sometimes people can get

Anyone who's ever worked retail/customer service type jobs knows the majority of these stories are real (edit: however embellished they may be, the gist of the majority of stories are real.)

It's enough to be a customer and pay attention for example in a restaurant while waiting for your dinner. Once in a while you see someone give a live demo on the insane entitlement some people go around with. And they're not gonna be quiet about it either

I worked retail for 26 yrs. I've seen EVERYTHING. I can believe that someone took her drinks. I can believe that someone cut the line. As for it actually happening the way the author says, it's plausible and not impossible.

For those thinking that OP embellished the story and are merely assuming that the person was lying, have y'all seen how those drinks actually looks??? As the old saying goes, "appearances are deceiving"; so a drink topped off with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate and/or caramel looks appealing to a child who doesn't know better, but the reality that it contains something extra (a shot of espresso or liqueur) would be a surprise, as the Karen and her kids found out. Plus, Karen was advocating stealing when she basically admitted that they hadn't even placed their order yet and didn't want to stand in that long line? Welp, that made it all the sweeter, plus the bonus of the kid spitting out the drink plus spilling it on mom!

Once the adult admitted she didn't place an order, her theft should have been addressed. That would have been a poignant lesson.

I think just mentioning what she did was theft would have made her sing a different tune... and threatening to ban her and her bratlings from all Starbucks in the area.

I once worked at a fast food. Was at the end of my shift and changing when the crew captain called me enraged. "you put a coffee on Mister's order and forgot it! Look at the receipt", I was this close to panic, and looking closer I realized that the hour on the ticket was before I started working that day. The dude had grabbed a receipt that looked like his order and tried to get a free coffee on my back. 😑💢

I had a kid run up to my drink and take a big sip of it because it was orange and he thought it soda or orange juice. It was fiber tea to help my bowels.

This sounds true to me. I live and work in a high end area and see these a-holes doing this kind of stuff on a regular. Ten years ago this kind of stuff didn't happen. Since 2020 people are showing all kinds of rude and awful behavior. Kids are 100× worse than they used to be. It's like the lockdown drove people to let the their little devils on their shoulder run their lives.

This behaviour has always been then. Even befire 2020. Take some of these commenters who have worked in retail or customer service for over 10 or 20 years and they will tell you that it has always been there.

I once reserved a rotisserie chicken at the Publix deli, and the staff put my name on the bag. But when I went to pick it up, it wasn't there. The deli said someone had picked it up. I was like, it had my name on it. The deli had asked the person if it was their name on it and they said yes. I don't suppose it would have occurred to ask for ID. My name isn't wildly popular, and it was just a chicken for which I hadn't yet paid. By then, the chickens were all gone and I had to do without. I hope that person, whoever they were was lying all the way, because I wouldn't want to share my name with a dirty low-down chicken thief. And I hope their dog stole it off the kitchen counter when they brought it home.

I was at a bodega in NYC waiting for my sandwich order. Two of my traveling companions had already picked up their order from the counter and found a table. My husband had just picked up his order and was getting napkins. One of the two men preparing food laid a sub on the counter, but before I could grab it a male walked up and took it. I was debating if possibly it was legitimately his order, when he walked back, mumbled something, laid it on the counter and walked away. Before I could even retrieve it, another male swoops in and grabs it, then walks away. When I alert the preparers that my sandwich stolen and that I need another one I get yelled at by them and told that I need to be "quicker." It took awhile to prepare another sandwich, so the other three had to wait while I ate. What does it say about these two "gentlemen" that they would harass a victim, while allowing a thief to cut into their profits? I encountered four @55h0L35 during that transaction.

I can believe it. I worked retail. From watching shove a pack a coco cola pack down there pants and try imply it was there d**k. A mom with two daughters "sampling all the nail polish" at CVS. Or a woman ordering black and orange cupcakes at Kroger bakery. Came late to pickup them up then screams they werent orange purple. Even though it's online order you can clearly see what was. Demanded she got a redone. Then want both for free. When we gave her half off. She Meltdown and didn't even buy them just started knocking s**t and left. Probably the most common is watching a highschooler deli girl get screamed at by middle-age man . Because he wanted reopen the slicer after they closed 4hrs ago and she just doing inventory. I went up to tell off just to watch our store director try flirt with him, and yelled at her to reopen it even though she not even one the slicers.

Caffeine usually has the opposite effect with little kids, making them tired instead! Regardless, the mother was a complete jackass! She's lucky that was a nice person because it could have been someone not in the mood for her mess or her entitlement!

In almost every situation related to butting in line, an argument over a parking spot, an incorrect food order, etc... will include a person or persons from New York. I worked in the city for a few years and the arrogance, ignorance, lack of makers or respect for others is nothing short of astonishing.

It does sound made up as I can’t believe humans like this are for real. However, I witnessed a lady take a Starbucks drink from the pickup counter and start to walk out with it while taking a sip. She must have realised it was the wrong order because she came back a second later and actually put the cup back on the counter with other waiting orders! Then, picked up a different cup, looked at the name, then walked out with what I presumed was her actual order. Me and another gal waiting exchanged incredulous looks and I said, “Did I just see her do what I thought she did?” And the gal replied, “Yeah, that was my order she took and put back. I’m asking them to make a different one.”

We had Karens in the 1960s though we referred to them as the blue rinse brigade. Middle aged women who's husbands had good jobs or self employed. I worked in a family run old fashioned drapers shop. In comes Karen who wants to buy some dress fabric. I inform her that we don't sell it. She keeps demanding it in a very snooty voice. The owner, (late 50s and won't stand for us being rude to customers but not a bad old stick) comes over to see what the matter is. Her tone changes to a sickly sweet one and gives me a sneering look thinking she is going to enjoy seeing me in trouble tells him what she wants. He confirms what I had told her 4 times. The expression on her face was a picture. She walks out without an apology or any word being said.

The story is believable. On a road trip with my grandson, done entitled old couple grabbed our order off the counter at a very busy McDonald's. They opened the bag and finally figured out it wasn't theirs. Not their turn even. They ordered after us. Didn't wait for a name or number. Very pushy people out there.

Well, you can say what you want, but I call bs. These stories get more and more extreme every week. Karen Customer did this, Karen mom did that, op got revenge on boss that cost company millions etc...no. it's just made up nonsense from people who need attention and a feeling of self worth that others who actually work for a living already have. Anyone who has ever dealt with young children know that caffeine will have the opposite effect than it does to an adult. Same with amphetamines. It calms them down, not fires them up. Hyper kid? Give them a sweet milky tea or coffee and it usually settles them right down. Sugar? NOW you're firing them up. LOL! (as much as some pediatricians say sugar doesn't do that, they obviously don't have kids.)

Sorry, I call BS. I've worked retail, customer service, food service and as a barista. Yes, I know people can be stupidly rude. But nothing about this story smells right. Especially the cringe inducing dialog.

No idea if real or not. As far as the dialog, OP said it happened a while ago, so if true the OP probably doesn't remember exactly what was said by who and has probably edited or stressed different parts for a better impact over several tellings.

So you're telling me person goes into restaurant expecting free food for her and kuds, and fee samples from full-sized drink cups first from other paid orders. Yeah? If that had ever happened, I'd go around following them and sampling their food, clothes, anything they access in oublic. But no I wouldn't have to, because this DID NOT HAPPEN, or if any part *was* true, it was distorted.

I'm sorry I think this story is bull. It's a coffee shop for a start and even an entitled mother ( especially and entitled one who wants less kid hassle) would not let her kids taste cups which obviously would have caffeine in it?? It's also a ridiculous story about someone just taking someone's order that's paid for and wanting to drink it? Either she met someone who has severe mental problems or this story is rubbish. The words used are totally insane. I'm calling it bull c**p.

Saw a person earlier this year purposely take another customer's order of fries, then looked around to see if the person who ordered them was coming. The person who ordered them had been on his phone, he came to the counter and asked where his fries were. I pointed out the person eating them. Company had to make another order and no one asked the person who stole the order anything.

Nope. Goh don't reward bad behavior. Or in this case, entitlement and theft.

This seems fake or very much exaggerated. The dialogue sounds like when a middle ahed person writes "teen speak" for a TV show or film.

Maybe someone tried to steal their drinks but the ending is just plain made up.

How can this be true? The mom knows starbucks is a coffee place. Why would she let her kids drink that? Who thinks unclaimed drinks are samples? How can the op drink 8 espresso shots? They're killing themselves

They do sell more than just coffee. I've never gotten anything else, but I know they sell hot chocolate and fruit smoothies

Did everyone clap? This is so absurd, at least try to make believable.
