Boyfriend Suspects His GF Might Be Cheating ‘Cause She Lied About Where She Was, But Things Take A Wholesome Turn

“God this is a doozy. I swear my life feels like a movie right now,” wrote an author u/throwra_wheredshego on the relationship_advice subreddit. As he was on a secret mission of picking out a ring for his to-be fiancee and consulting her BFF, the GF seemed to also be up to something.

The couple was soon caught in a web of lies, and the author realized something just didn’t add up. “My girlfriend and I have zero trust issues and we tell each other everything, so this lie is killing me,” the boyfriend wrote as his suspicions grew.

But in an unexpected turn of events, things turned out to be much more wholesome than you’d think. No wonder the story has won the hearts of Reddit!

RELATED:

This boyfriend was planning to propose to his girlfriend when he realized she was lying about who she spent time with

So he consulted his girlfriend’s best friend about picking the ring

No wonder the author suddenly became very suspicious

The thought of his to-be fiancee lying to him was too much, so he finally confronted her

But his girlfriend reacted in a very weird way

Why didn't the girlfriend just say she was staying later at her sisters? I mean I'm happy it turned out okay but just seems weird to add an extra layer to her fib when she had the perfect excuse built right in lol.

"I'm the type of guy that does not see a problem with heart shaped jewelry" Wait, what? I'm so out of touch.

I can imagine their wedding: he gives her a heart shaped ring, she puts a little snake around his fingers.

Aw. I needed to look up pictures of Kenyan sand boas afterwards. They are indeed cute. I love the twist to this one.

Oh this is adorable. I am honest and communicative 100% of the time ... except when planning good surprises, then I'm more like 75% honest but still communicate!

Must say I'm 99% against surprise pets, if anything got overlooked it's the pet that suffers. In 1% of the cases the communication is clear and it's known there's no problems so go ahead. My then-partner gave me a kitten birthday surprise which was soon very inconvenient (had to move out of the country 5months later, as was kind-of known by then). Trust me with a pet you're near the bottom of the list when landlords choose whom to rent out their rooms to (though probably still ahead of non-white). Also it was a kitten from a shop, it had been taken too early from the mother, had lived an unknown amount of days/weeks in a cardboard box under the till with a diminishing number of siblings, and had (initially) health and (long-term) behavioural problems.

I wouldnt read into it too much. It seems the guy wanted a snake for a while, knows alot about them, and wanted one. Girlfriend knew this and surprised him.

The comment of 'the only reason to lie', is too narrow. A broader " a surprise of her own" is the better term. It could be to learn to cook his favorite dish from his mom. Overcome a fear that prevents a shared interest ie. like see a counsler to be able to ride a rollercoaster or fear of water. Learn to dance a few styles.

This guy needs to learn to condense. This was a nice story, but it didn’t need to be a novella. “A mutual friend of mine and my gf was helping me pick out a ring while gf was out. I texted gf to gauge when she might be back, she said she was hanging out with the friend I was with. When gf came back, I eventually decided to just directly confront her about how I knew she was lying. It turned out she was picking out a snake for me as a surprise!” There. Didn’t need 30,000 words.

I am sorry but it is time to make reptiles ILLEGAL to own. They are NOT PETS. Same with tigers, lions etc.

Hard to buy a snake? Where do you live? We have exotic stores devoted to snakes and other reptiles, entire weekend shows at the fairgrounds of reptiles, rescues, and then regular chain pet stores. My snow corn, Deuce, was an owner surrender at Petco, and I had him for 23 years.

I think he was referring to raising it. “The process of buying and raising a snake is different. It can be quite complicated.” A lot of people avoid Petco because the animal could have hidden health issues, Petco isn't really known for truly taking care of exotic pets. It's mostly “stick it in a too-small cage and feed it.”
