In the pulsating neon-lit corridors of our cyberpunk dystopia, my latest painting, “Elimination Protocol: The Little Eared One,” emerges as a metaphysical breakthrough, confronting the shadows that lurk within the human psyche. This piece delves into the perpetual conflict between good and evil, encapsulating the essence of our internal battles against the malevolent forces that reside in each of us.
The painting’s central tableau is both haunting and captivating: a line of augmented beings, their forms reminiscent of Egyptian gods yet enhanced with cybernetic modifications. Each deity holds a high-tech knife, its blade shimmering with an otherworldly glow. These figures stand in a solemn procession, their expressions a blend of ancient wisdom and futuristic detachment, as they plunge their knives into a creature bound to a monolithic pillar. This creature, the “little eared one,” symbolizes the fragile innocence within us, the part of our humanity most vulnerable to corruption.
This ritualistic execution is depicted not as an act of mere violence but as a necessary purification. The cybernetic gods, arbiters of justice in this dark future, represent the forces of equilibrium, wielding their knives to excise the darkness and allow for renewal. Their actions, while brutal, are a testament to the relentless pursuit of inner harmony and the eradication of evil.
Beneath this powerful scene, the painting features intricate reliefs made from bonded aluminum foil. These reliefs combine ankhs, symbols of eternal life, with knife wands, illustrating the perpetual dance of creation and destruction. The choice of aluminum foil, with its reflective and fragile nature, echoes the delicate balance between life and death, light and shadow.
Accompanying this visual narrative is a poem that captures the essence of the transformation depicted:
“We turn into spiders
Nerve flagella pull-pull
Sticky pulp, prick, prick,
Aliens.”
This poem, with its stark and visceral imagery, mirrors the metamorphic journey of our souls. The transformation into spiders evokes the sensation of being stretched and reshaped, our nerve endings tingling with the pain and excitement of change. The alienness of the experience reflects the disorientation and resilience required to transcend our hardships.
“Elimination Protocol: The Little Eared One” is more than a painting; it is a cyberpunk allegory of purification and transformation. It invites viewers to confront their inner demons and recognize the necessity of self-destruction in the pursuit of self-improvement. Through this work, I aim to provoke thought and discussion about the eternal struggle within us all, set against the backdrop of a futuristic world where the ancient and the modern collide.
