Artist Redraws Disney Characters As Being Edgier And Fans Demand For More
Even though Disney characters are strong personalities with their own values, most of them are a little... vanilla on the outside. Considering their audience, of course, there's nothing wrong with it. But what if Belle, Tarzan, and all the other beloved peeps were to star in something edgier?
Artist Lexis Vanhecke has been recreating Disney characters, and after going through her makeovers, they look like grown-up teenagers. But in a totally good way. Proving their rebellious years weren't just a phase, Vanhecke's characters grew up holding onto their wild, nonconformist souls, captivating millions of people online. Sharing her work on TikTok, the artist has already accumulated over 16M likes and 1.2M followers.

Snow White
Omg Snow White is like....YAS...*tries to explain but can't ends up making arm motions in a hopeless attempt to explain*
Load More Replies...I never thought edgy could be used to describe snow white, but here we are.
Lexis is a 23-year-old Ohio woman who recently graduated with a BFA in fine art and painting. She told BuzzFeed that she is actually an oil painter and she's just experimenting with digital art. "I downloaded the application Procreate and started making portraits on there before coming up with the idea to insert a picture and draw on top of it."
Tiana
As an african american with natural curly hair (and an undieing love for Tiana), I love seeing her with curls!!
One of the reasons why Lexis makes these transformations so seamless and believable could be the fact that she's really familiar with the characters. "I've always loved Disney, so I decided to give that a try," she said. "Other creators also had the idea to give a makeover to Disney characters, so I wanted to put my own personal spin on it. Although the other accounts I've seen have definitely given stylish makeovers, I've never seen anyone put an edgy spin on the characters, so I decided that would be my thing."
Moana
My only complaint is that the editing look a *little* messy, but otherwise, love it!
"When it comes to whether or not I consider my characters 'sexy,' well, it depends. I remake the characters in a way that I, personally, find fun and stylish. I do have a lot of children following me, so I don't want them to get too risqué. But, it depends on how you look at it! A lot of my adult viewers do find the beards, piercings, and tattoos sexy! However, my drawings aren't so sexy that they would be considered inappropriate."
Shang
omg i just realized who would be a great actor for him!!! Booboo Stewart!
Lexis thinks her videos are doing so great because she is merging both fashion and art, and that interests many. "When I begin a video, I don't have an end goal in mind. I think up the makeover as I go. So, in a way, it's a surprise for me to see the end result as well, which is super fun!" she said. "People can see their beloved characters as they would look in a different time or place, and I think the curiosity of seeing more characters is what keeps them coming back and following my account."
Aurora
Rapunzel
Rapunzel, Rapunzel, please cut off your hair; and get some tattoos and piercings...
Ariel
Seeing this makes me wonder why Ursula didn't disguise herself as mermaid-Ariel instead of human-Vanessa. She had the voice, Ariel was gone to land and not coming back, King Triton was desperate and remorseful. Easy to "return home," apologize for running away, and take her place as the elderly king's favored daughter.
Alice
There's no mistaking that Alice is a child. Why on earth would you sexualise a child..?
I am a child, I would wear this. An off shoulder shirt? And yes, it's a little short, but who cares? I have seen my friends wear bikinis at the pool all the time. They aren't doing anything wrong.
Load More Replies...I'm really sorry, but these comments are getting ridiculous now. Does every sentence need to have the word 'pansexual' in it to remind people that you are pansexual? I mean, it's literally your username. I'm saying this as an actual pan person (possibly the only time I've ever mentioned it on here, but it's to prove my point), this makes a mockery of us. It reads like you've just discovered the label and now want to use it everywhere for 'cool points'. No. Homophobes hate it, LGBT hate it. Everyone hates it apart from those who have to hide behind a (usually untrue) label in place of a personality. This is in addition to using that so-called sexuality in a sentence about a child. Stop giving the homophobes more ammo.
Load More Replies...omg!! She looks so cute in this one!! I love how the sweater is just fallen off one of her shoulders!
Mulan
Mulan is my favorite Disney “princess”! I love the girl power in the movie!!
yes Mulan is an amazing reminder about how strong women can be it's an amazing Disney movie definitely in my top 5
Load More Replies...This is me minus the piercings and dye the hair turquoise instead of pink
Lip ring... Seriously? She doesn't need that, she is beautiful the way she was. Now don't get me wrong I like the art, but like... C'mon?
Jasmine
Elsa
That's... um... I don't think anyone needed to know that
Load More Replies...Meg
I like this one better she kinda looks like collette from rattatulloui
TBH I think she was already pretty edgy but I love her tattoos and hair.
Pocahontas
Cinderella
Cinderella is so vanilla, put some chocolate on her and she’s unrecognizable
Belle
Tarzan
Where would Tarzan have gotten a tattoo? Thats not even in a spot that he could have done it easily by himself. He wasn't raised by humans, where would he learn this at all? Just questions...
It’s true... maybe like berry juice or something? Idk
Load More Replies...me loves this one(my bf in the background is yelling "mine and nobody else
It was an unflattering photo to begin with. Not the editor's fault.
Load More Replies...Naveen
In the second picture I think he reminds me of Juice WRLD, but white.
Naveen isn't white though. He's middle eastern. But you're right, he does look like juice wrld

Would have been better if they went with what was 'edgy' for each character's time period. Rather than making them all have tattoos, piercings and heavy make-up
Ok stereotype time! Boys: hella lot of tattoos piercings and muscles Girls: dyed hair black makeup Guys apparently I’m edgy for h@ving dyed hair
Another addition to the tired-ass 'reinventing' disney trend only somehow with even less creativity. Some even look like they were traced from the original pic badly.
Yeah; they are a slightly better quality version of kids doodling over the pictures in their textbooks.
Load More Replies...Define "artist" (No, I don't think these are well done - the good parts are merely recoloured, while the edits are blurry or wonky.)
*climbs out of brewery rubble* Don't worry, i have a Peppa Pig first aid kit.
Load More Replies...Ah yes, tattoos and makeup. how edgy. Also, wow another disney post. BP may as well change its name to "reimagineddisney.com"
