If a failure of the Wilkes Subglacial Basin "ice plug" in the next few centuries were to endanger the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, it will take up to this long to melt completely. I am almost tempted to find and read that book... doesn't it seem likely that at least *some* plants and animals would evolve - over the hundreds of millions of years that the carbon dioxide level is falling - to make use of the new chemical composition of the air? (Assuming that any have survived the previous global catastrophes, and/or re-evolved since those events.)

Load More Replies...I had an idea that maybe the universe repeats itself over and over again - that what we are doing is going to happen in the next universe, and the universe after that, and after that, and so, on, and time resets after the big Crunch. After we die, we are still alive because the universe repeats itself, so we are also alive in the next universe, cycling again and again. Every event that happens in our lives repeats itself and we make the same exact choices, again and again and again and again, while we think that we are doing something different.
I also had this Idea for a while , then I read your comment it feels like everything that is happening in this world is connected and will always be a circle, so i strongly agree that it is all possible the everything that has happened had happened already this theory can be supported evidently with case related to deja vu's , life is all like a big lottery only time will tell when the same combination is gonna show up over again.

Load More Replies...I find myself wondering about humanity's role in these events. The optimist in me is thinking about the deep wells of genius and creative thinking we as a species have displayed, and wondering if it's possible that given enough time (and this whole thread is a testament to the vast amounts of time that will pass before the universe itself implodes) we might be able to solve each of these problems as they present themselves. But then I remember climate change deniers and the role of government in keeping the people from thinking too hard about anything, and I wonder if we'll even survive the next 50 years.
Man, somebody really want us to die. I wonder how the Earth is going to end this year.
