Woke My Wife Up On The "Right Side Of The Bed"
My wife had one of "those days" yesterday, so I wanted to do something special for her.
I woke up early, got the kids out of bed and made them breakfast. This way my wife could sleep in. I figured the kids were old enough to not set the house on fire while she was sleeping so I drove down to the store and brought her back her favorite Starbucks drink and the flowers you see above and headed back home.
When I got back home I started a bath for her and went down stairs to make her an English muffin for a little breakfast snack. I left all of this in the bathroom with the lights off and natural light coming in.
Finally, I went into our bedroom and nudged her awake, telling her that her bath was ready.
She was happily surprised when she opened the door to the bathroom.
I love doing these little things for my wife on occasion to remind her of how much she means to me. I'm sure she loves it too.

This reminds me of something... Many years ago, on my dearest grandma's birthday, since I was away and could not see her, I sent her a potted plant, from the florist. I wanted her to be able to keep it, instead of cut flowers, that would end up dying. When she passed away, 12 years ago, I inherited the plant. I call it "Mamie's Plant". It is one of my most precious possessions... Here's the craziest twist : my grandma was actually my adoptive grandma, since she and my grandpa adopted my mom when she was a baby. Mom had no information about her biological background until a few months ago, when she did a DNA test and learned that she is 60% Irish. The plant in question is an Irish Shamrock. :)

Now this is what I like. Reminds me of the things that my mama used to draw. Mama says that her favorite drawing she has ever made is one of ice cream and bananas fighting each other. Kudos to all those wonderful men who hand crafted something or prepared something thoughtful to ease and comfort their wives. So many sweet, attentitive ideas and personal gifts, it’s heart warming. But the guys who think they’re prince charming because they prepared a dinner for their partner deserve a slap on the wrist - she probably cooks every evening for you and you want to be saluted for doing it once? Puh-lease!

My husband made a trail of exactly 163 red roses, one for each day I was in hospital. Right to our bedroom, with a picture of us snuggling (made a long time ago by one of the kids who found that hilarious - parents know 'that' age) and the text "I love sleeping with you. Welcome home, princess". Glad the kids were in college by then though, they would still have fits of laughter. Even now I feel so blessed and it's almost 3 yrs ago!

So all that cutesy, mushy, over the top stuff is great but I find the husbands and boyfrienda who really set the bar are the ones who are there for the unglamorous, everyday, and sometimes ugly stuff and are in the trenches with their families everyday. The romantic stuff doesn't last but having a Rock solid partner you can count on does.

Sorry, "he cooked me a meal" is not a bar-raiser. Neither is buying a dog or cat. Some of these are pretty good, though. Many just Eh. My own: I took a job where I had to travel all the time. When I left on my first trip, I arranged a delivery with the local flower shop. I left on Sunday, and as I was on my way to the airport she got a single red rose. All her friends told her how jealous they were but she always got flowers. Monday Morning she received another rose. On Tuesday, she got another rose. By Wednesday, all her friends were at our house waiting for the delivery guy. When I got home Friday night, she had a half dozen roses and she smiled all weekend.

A few months after dating, I went on a 3 week trip to Europe. My now hubby, sent me off with a bunch of letters, labelled for each stop, days I missed him or home, just thinking of him and so on. I loved opening them. He still does sweet things for me.

I'm not sure if you are a man or a woman. If you are a man, then get someone who also does these things for you. If you are a woman, also do these things for your boyfriend so he doesn't feel like he is the only one who has to do them.
