From a young age I have always had a fascination with the art of Drag. I love watching Ru Paul’s drag race and I have watched every episode.
Last year I was lucky enough to find 10 drag artists that would come to my studio in London to have a photoshoot.
I produced some amazing images from these drag queens, drag kings and bio queens.
I decided to enter one of the drag queens into the newborn and portrait show print competition along with some self portraits and some child portraits I had taken.
I drove to Coventry to watch the live judging which was really good to listen to the feedback that was given on all the images. The following day I was please that 4 of my images had been selected to enter into the final and there was an awards dinner that is held on the Tuesday evening.
At the awards I was pleased when I placed 2nd and 3rd in the competition and I thought that someone else was going to win first place however I was shocked when they called me up as the first place winner.
I found this to be an amazing achievement as there has never been a drag queen image to win an award in a UK or Europe print competition. Finally judges are changing with the world and I would love to win an international competition with a drag queen.
