Thanks! Check out the results:
10 different artist/groups across many genres (Olivia Newton John, White Stripes, Miley Cyrus) have reached the top 100 with "Jolene" covers. People need to calm down.
If Beyonce's cover is even half as good as the one done by Lil Nas X, it's going to be AMAZING. People cover other artists' songs all the time, so I don't understand why anyone would make a fuss over this - especially since Dolly herself approves it.
I think certain songs just don't work as covers because the new singer doesn't have the voice, or they just *have* to rearrange it or change the style. That said, it's music. As long as she's paying for the right to use the song then it's fair game. If it sounds awful then just don't listen to it. Pretty simple really.
Load More Replies...I don't think Beyonce is anything close to a country singer tbh (I feel her voice is made more for big belting ballads and pop) but she may surprise us yet.
Bey is not proclaiming to be a country singer, she is merely singing a country song. Is that hard to comprehend?
Load More Replies...Dolly is nobody's fool about getting paid!! She's very proud of how smart she is- and absolutely right. One of her famous wisecracks: "There's always the noise about "a dumb blonde", but I ain't dumb, and I sure ain't blonde, either!" And the "ain't" is purely an act.
Load More Replies...All music. ALL music. ALL - you listening? Starts with some scrap of an idea from - some other music and musician. Musicians know this, which is why they are usually delighted to have another musician pick up their work and run with it. That's how music grows. Dolly - is a great artist. She should be a Designated National Treasure. She knows any performance by Beyonce will stand or fall on its own- and can't hurt Dolly's work one bit, If you think your opinion is worth more than Dolly's - aren't you just a wee bit inflated?
I think this is terrible, because as we all know, it's physically impossible for someone other than a country singer to sing "Jolene" properly, and when someone makes a cover song, poof, the original version disappears from existence and you can never listen to it again. /sarcasm
Her style isn't to my taste, but I appreciate that she put her own spin on the song.
Load More Replies...I would say I'm 'cautiously intrigued'. I love most kinds of music, and am a fan of Dolly (both her music and other work). I've not been a fan of most of Beyoncé's work, but think it will be interesting to hear. I love cross genre artists and cross genre covers, but they don't always work out well (looking at you Sheryl Crow's cover of 'sweet child o' mine'). However given who we're talking about, I expect it to be passable at worst and epic at best.
I really don't like Beyonce and I've a feeling she will murder Joelene.
Dolly Parton seems like a really good person but I'd rather shave with a cheese grater than listen to that hillbilly noise.
