The smile of Odin the dog is so wide and loving that the marks he carries on his face and body fade out of focus. However, they rarely go unnoticed. The story is that when Odin was still a puppy, he had an explosive strapped to one of his paws. When he felt the fire, in an instinctive gesture to put it out, he bit the item, which blew up, knocking out teeth and destroying part of his paw and snout.

Luckily, Odin was rescued in time and made it through alive. Then the puppy spent three years in a shelter with other animals until his sweet smile shared on social media captivated his future owner Claiciene. Now Odin has over 10K followers on Instagram as more and more people fall in love with his touching story and adorable demeanor.

“In Viking mythology, Odin was the supreme chief of the realm of Asgard, where the Norse gods dwell. Odin is considered the god of wisdom, magic, poetry, and war. He is the protector of the dead in battle and of wizards. It would be the perfect name for him to carry, due to his strength and life story.

With the adoption of Odin, I knew that we would have a long battle ahead, of inclusion and even of raising people’s awareness of mistreatment. I know he is guiding me in this battle and doing the same with those who become aware of its existence,” points out the businesswoman Claiciene Costa Kobayashi, who drove from Santa Bárbara d’Oeste to São José dos Campos to adopt Odin. Today the family lives in Paraty, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Odin’s owner wants to spread the message about animals that are constantly neglected in animal shelters

Claiciene alerts readers to the fact that, in shelters, some groups of animals are constantly neglected and spend years, if not their entire lives, without being chosen. “These animals are the elderly, adults, and the disabled.

That’s why my goal today is to make people aware of this type of adoption and, mainly, about responsible adoption. Adoption cannot be guided by the physical characteristics of the animal, but by the positive impact of living with these very special beings. It feels like drying ice most of the time, but we can’t give up hope.”

It’s refreshing to see Odin living a happy life after his accident

We hope this story inspires more people to adopt animals that have been hurt but are just as lovable!

The header says he lost part of his snout in an 'accident' but the text below said that an explosive had been strapped to his paw. That sounds like an on purpose maiming!

Couldn't look at the pictures, because of what happens to some animals in real life, often by people, but I would have upvoted this 1000 times more and a gaziljon added to that. Odin is just one of the more lucky ones. 🤟👍👍👍👍

I understand that it can be triggering and disturbing at first to look at the photos, but there is so much love in Odin's eyes and he is truly living his very best life now with a loving and caring owner. He has adorable little bandanas and bow-ties and is traveling to some lovely places with his loving "human". Odin also had the sweetest little smile. He may look a little different, but he I'm sure that he has he biggest of doggy hearts.

Aw, breathing must have been difficult. It’s so sweet to see that he’s better. He looks genuinely happy <3. It doesn’t matter how it happened because they all describe it differently. At least now he’s loved!

While I am so happy that Odin is now a much-loved family member, the story is tempered by the unbearable sadistic cruelty he suffered as a puppy. Who tf actually does something so heinous to such a tiny, innocent creature? I sincerely hope for a lifetime of suffering for the monster responsible. You dont deserve to breathe air.

Sad when that horrible thing happened to that animal they just didn't put it to sleep that poor dog to make it go through all those surgeries and therapy not to mention the expense of it all which could have been directed to animals that were not maimed and brutalized this story makes me just so sad on all levels
