Some of the more experienced crafters have been talking about this DIY shed for a while, creating a huge buzz about it online. And if you like to build things as well, it might be right up your… backyard. This ‘garden house’ by Allwood can be converted into a guesthouse, studio, garden house, pool house, a sunroom or truly anything your heart desires and it shouldn’t be harder to assemble than your typical IKEA purchase.

More info: Amazon | Allwood

“[The] Solvalla tiny house kit is made from high quality solid Nordic wood,” the company writes on its website. “This timeless design is an alternative to classic log cabin styled structures. It works well in a variety of surroundings and can be a guesthouse, home office, granny flat, or even a retail space. Versatile Solvalla can also be set up on rooftops of multi-story buildings. Assembly of this solid wood structure takes a full day for two adults. Do it yourself simple step-by-step directions come with the kit and only minimal tools are needed.”

Amazon had been selling the tiny home but says it’s “currently unavailable.” Anyone who desires it, however, can order it on the official Allwood website for $6,550 (the shipping’s free). The only things you won’t find in the easy DIY kit are roof shingles and foundation materials. Allwood estimates they will cost about $150 and $170 respectively.

Also, there’s no bathroom added in the tiny house plans but Allwood states that “adding one is not difficult” as you can purchase DIY indoor bathroom kits also.

If your backyard ideas include extras like HVAC or electricity to this DIY home, you’ll need to figure out how to do that yourself. It doesn’t include any of these amenities.

And when your guests need to pee in the middle of the night, they have to cross your lawn with a torch to light their way to your house. Then your insomniac / nosy neighbour spots them, calls the cop and your guests end up in a jail cell. Hosting guests problem solved...

This is lovely, but I think it would take much longer than 8 hours total. Maybe 8 hours to put the structure together, but a lot longer to dig out the space under the floor and install the pipes.

I want one but I still don’t have enough to buy one. If I could i would feed ferals and they would have a home for life!!!. It is-no fault of theirs that they are not wanted ………thus being thrown out in the streets with no place to sleep or eat. If Amazon would give this at a huge discount I could save a lot of homeless kitties!

I don't see this as an "advertisement". I'd love to have one of these as a "she shed" for reading or painting and never would have guessed I could get a kit like this. I appreciate the info!

This would make a good "addition" to a mobile home. The guests would not have to go far for the bathroom. It would also be nice for summer sleeping. Just put in a screen and windows that open. Also blinds for privacy. I would love to have this for my trailer.

So, my guests are supposed to sit in a glass house, where I can see and supervise their every move? Catch them in case they don't floss after brushing their teeth!

You'll need a building permit from your city... just like building any kind of structure on your property. ALWAYS check with your city/town hall first.

Good point, it gets very windy here and I don't even see that holding up to 50mph. All that glass will be great for hail, as well!

I’d glass in the whole thing, set up a mini-kitchen and a bed, and it would be awesome for guests - it gives them privacy and the freedom to sleep in or get up early without disturbing the entire house. It would also make a wonderful office or studio.

It would be nice if it was cheaper. Contractors in my area could build on that much space to your actual house for nearly the same cost.
