Model Shows How Indian Disney Princesses Would Look Like, And Some Look Better Than Originals
Model and Make-up artist Hamel Patel decided recently to do what countless girls have done over the years, play dress-up and recreate Disney princesses.
Hamel is from North Carolina, but she pays homage to her family heritage by reinterpreting classic female characters such as Snow White and Cinderella in a traditional Indian style. Famous for its colors, flowing dresses, and ornate jewelry, Indian fashion perfectly complements the fantasy and imagination of Disney characters.
“Growing up, I always wished there was a Disney princess I could relate to, one that represented where I came from,” she wrote on Instagram. “Introducing outfits/princess makeup looks inspired by the eight original pretty princesses we all grew up watching, with a little desi twist!”

Jasmine
Snow White
I like this one the most , cause we Indians love red and I love the shades of red used in this !
Pocahontas
before anyone says "that's the point", my original comment is for the people calling Pocahontas an Indian
Load More Replies...Awesome costume, but i guess feels a little out of character for pocahontas? Still, nice twist.
Cinderella
Belle
Ariel
Mulan
Princess Aurora
In anything princess themed (toys, etc) Aurora is always in pink. I'm assuming to set her apart from Cinderella.
Indian women fascinate me. Especially how no matter how much makeup and/or jewellery they put on they still look stunning. I wear a necklace and a pair of medium sized earrings and look ridiculous.
Exactly! Look at the first picture, where Hanel wears a rather simple make-up and "plain" clothes (but quite frankly, were I a woman, I would kill for that spectacular skirt... Hell, I'm a man and would kill for that spectacular skirt). She looks gorgeous. Then, in the rest of the images, se wears a buckload of make-up, jewelry and accessoires and still looks gorgeous. How do they do that???
Load More Replies...Good to see Indian articles being featured. Good work too! You go girl!
Loved the Indian take on the princesses. Very beautiful. Would love to see full body pictures of the costumes though.
These are pretty cool and unique, though. Interesting to imagine them as a different race.
Load More Replies...To be honest, I wouldn't have know which was which, without the "labels". Very pretty lady, but I really couldn't see the Disney princesses.
I love how she looks but I don't think she looks like the princesses all that much. A wig would have helped
There are many photo on BP that make me say 'wow!' But there are not many posts that I say 'wow!' to every single photo. Amazing, stunning, cool and beautiful!
I love all of these! I always think indian women are the most like modern day princesses the way they dress and they are so beautiful. <3
Honestly would have loved to see her try Princess Tiana because she's a Disney princess now too.
I don't mean to rain on her parade, she is very beautiful and talented. I'm just curious, is "instagram model" a thing? Like can someone use that title in an audition or describing a job?(I don't use Instagram but I assume its like FB or Twitter?)
Enough with the disney princesses. Next its black, then fat than as male...
so it’s not your thing. whatever. just don’t look at it then. WE certainly don’t want you here.
Load More Replies...Ewww....chunky jewelry and loud make up doesn't make up an indian look.....these princesses are icons in the west and u cannot malign their looks, even if they r fictitious.... imagine if they did a western version of padmavati... imagine the uproar it would create.... so we should just let some things be...she looks best in her natural look the first pic.
