If you enjoyed Chris McMahon’s remakes of thrift store art, you’re going to like these as well. Dave of Arrowhead Vintage & Goods also salvages second-hand landscapes to transform the discarded paintings into surreal sci-fi scenes.
He alters old, forgotten artworks by adding pop culture elements to them. The artist also performs these makeovers with such dedication, the end results look like something the authors of the originals intended all along. From the classic Godzilla to the recent breakthrough Rick and Morty, Dave’s collection has something to offer to most fantasy fans out there.
Star Wars, however, is the franchise he enjoys working with the most.

Arrowhead Vintage & Goods specializes in everything from vinyl and home decor to clothing and jewelry, so these paintings shouldn’t come as a complete surprise to people who visit the shop in Canton, Ohio. If they could enter it.
“I have always done art for fun, just novelty weirdo stuff but when covid hit, I had to close my vintage store,” Dave told Bored Panda. “My wife and I started doing our website full time trying to keep afloat. She made masks and I started painting. Both really kept us busy and we were really glad to have the work.”

Dave started the series with an old landscape he had already had; the artist himself thought it was beautiful but couldn’t sell the piece even for $5. “After a couple of years, I decided if I was going to throw it out, I could try and do something interesting with it. I think I added a fallen AT-ST, half in a lake, and Ewoks fishing off of it.”
The artist said he spends a lot of time analyzing and learning to “match” the painting’s style before he actually begins working on it.
Before the pandemic, Dave used to get old landscapes at thrift stores and garage sales but acquiring these things isn’t a problem now as well — lately, people have been cleaning out their houses and bringing them to him directly. “It’s great,” Dave said. “Usually, I only spend $5 or $10 each, not much.”

People are absolutely loving Dave’s remakes
There's a heap of Doctor Who fans that would love a TARDIS in a random place!
These additions make the paintings so much more exciting, and give more potential to find a home! Great work! 🎨
he just made these paintings SO much better, not just with the star wars ones
I like the one of Adolph Heinze's "Red Cliffs of Western New Mexico" with the mech. But I feel he didn't' go far enough. Perhaps a column of smoke in the distance or some over-grown general carnage might have brought it together.
I love the one where the guy is Fly fishing with the AT-AT behind him. Would love to buy that painting.
As an artist I am very impresses how he implemented the pop culture into these painting. It isn't just slapped on like a sticker. He took the time to study these paintinga and mimicked the color palettes and style so his added images LOOK like they were part of the original design. He alsp was careful with composition so the focal point makes sense as the eye moves about the image. Talented artist, great technique and admirable respect for the original art. He merges his art with another's, marrying the ideas together instead of erasing the original art. Love it!
There's a guy in Toronto (David Irvine) that's been doing this for years. So while yes it's a great idea, it's also not his original idea. https://twistedsifter.com/2014/07/thrift-store-painting-remixes-by-david-irvine/ https://abcnews.go.com/Business/canadian-artist-adds-pop-thrift-store-paintings-ups/story?id=30116973 Unless this guy and David Irvine are one and the same, but it's not looking like it.
I always wanted to do this with old 1st and 2nd-coming Black Metal album covers, like Darkthrone and Burzum. They always had these stark pictures of just them in corpse paint on the cover, and I think it would be a riot to put them in snow scenes, or on a beach.
I'm kinda torn. On the one hand I like these on the other I liked most of the originals. I hope most of these were prints.
Wow, these are great! My favorites are the Harry Potter one and the dragon one, but for future reference, we have front legs too. 🤩
