CR Fashion Book Releases 8 Digital Photos Of The Late Hollywood Star Marilyn Monroe, And It Makes Some Feel Uncomfortable
Like it or not, it looks like the trend of digitally resurrecting late celebrities is here to stay. One of the latest such instances is with Marilyn Monroe, where she resurfaced in last month's CR Fashion Book, China edition. In order to pull this project off, several creative and tech teams worked on it for 8 months, and produced an explosive result.
The reviews were mixed, but what the project succeeded in doing is that no one was indifferent to it. Some applauded this virtual project as beneficial, saying that it's a great way to showcase the technology, while others were left unnerved. What made most people uncomfortable is the unsettling question: "Who's going to be next in line to become a commercialized corpse? Is there no rest for the dead?" What do you think? Unless you know her personally, you have no idea what she was or was not. There is no truth in images, and certainly none in celebrity. The only "Marilyn Monroe" we can know is a product, not a person. What we feel when we look at a picture is a fantasy based in our peculiar neurology.
Load More Replies...Further perpetuating the belief by young people that this is what a human looks like - completely face tuned with no skin texture and zero discoloration, no pores, barely even wrinkles on the knuckles of her fingers. It's awful and overdone completely. We need to stop this misconception that this type of beauty is achievable. It is a cartoon version.
i dont understand why they didnt give her even a slight smile in any of them. she was so lively and fun and theese dont really show that at all.
That's because these aren't photos, and her eyes are downcast in this one. Her vibrancy won't show in generated images. What passes me off is they are still using her.
"Ceci n’est pas une pipe," said René Magritte in "The Treachery of Images." It's a lesson that should be taught and retaught in every grade of every educational system on earth. It's 2022 and imagery is the primary tool by which billions of people are encouraged to feel without thinking. This is not Marilyn Monroe. This is not anyone. This is a collection of colored dots. An image has the same reality as anything else that exists entirely between our ears. We are, each of us, responsible for our perceptions. The danger is that perceiving stupidly is a precursor to acting stupidly. We’re subjected daily to a billion dollar industry that does nothing but use colored dots to manipulate our perceptions, feelings, and actions - usually to our own detriment as individuals and as a species.
They made her too thin in all the pictures. She has curves and was like a size 12.
This is the one that feels most real imho. I Think I'll watch "Some Like It Hot" (1959) for tonights movie. Always hilarious.
a Met Gala knockout!! 👍😍💕 (and far better than many that have attended).
She did not consent to this, did any of her living relatives?
doesn't really "look" like her- more like a cousin or her sister.
If you'll pardon the expression, Marilyn would not be caught dead in an outfit with all those ragged edges! I hope her estate is suing.
Sorry. Honestly lacks Marilyn Monroe’s soul. Feels nothing like her.
Load More Replies...I can't picture her wearing any of this junk. She had a style, and this isn't it.
There is something off about all of these....there is a spark of life that is missing here which is rather disconcerting.
All of these are awful. In some she doesn't even look like Marilyn. Are we sure this isn't a con? If so, they have been so badly photoshopped as to change her essential self.
Nope, not there yet. All the photos seem kinda....off. It's just not her face to me, it's like a model who resembles her.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. As I said on one of the pics, Marilyn would not be caught dead in any of these outfits.
I don't get it, is it just her face photoshopped on to other models? Or did they photoshop clothing on to pictures of her? /Genuine
And they took away her *body*. Why is she so weirdly thinner than she was in reality? Let her have her body, hips and all, dang it!
Marilyn was perfectly imperfect. These are like someone made a Marilyn filter with added facetuning and used a skinny model. Not Marilyn, just Marilyn inspired.
They got WAYS to go, this looks like 2005 photoshop I did freshman year
Let her rest. I think it's gross to use what basically is advanced Photoshop and a dead celebrity to advance your brand. Also, an explosive result? 8 months for tech teams to create? Like truly, it's just very well done Photoshop. I feel like most of that time was for photography and arranging clothing.
