In translation from Nenets, “Yamal” means “the end of the earth”. There’s a harsh climate and permafrost. Even the railway has not been built to the capital of the district.

Factoria Labrovaya located above the Arctic Circle, is quite modern life. Some of the families of reindeer herders moved to a settled way of life, others – following the tradition, live in plague.

The local population is engaged in reindeer herding, fishing and national crafts. Nenets, the indigenous inhabitants of Yamal, by nature have the kindness and special power of the human spirit.

Here you feel the unity of eternity and the running moment. The world is always new and fresh. Deer go off the paths of ancient censuses.

    This degree of tradition while extremely poor has trade offs...the comfort of doing what you always did as a community, vs. having so little. This is hard for Americans to comprehend.
