What It’s Like To Be Dealing With Depression

Thousands of people know what depression feels like but only a few of us want to talk about it.

Colleen Butters created a simple, yet wonderful cartoon to encourage everyone, dealing with this illness, to reach out for help and to speak about their issues.

“Your feelings are real, your feelings are shared upon millions” says the artist and she could not be more right.

This is the best one yet. Depression is like a dull toothache. Its always there, and never goes away. And the longer it remains with you, the less the desire to get up and do things, in spite of what your Mother or others keep telling you.

That's not the way things work. What about people like me who have nobody to reach out to? No friends no family just yourself and your dark thoughts to keep you company. I suffer greatly with depression and this comic is just another generic people love you your awesome c**p that doesn't really do anything for anyone.

I think Natasha is right. And you don't need to fight on your own. There is therapy maybe, there are groups of people with depression on- and offline. It's important to find your own way. Step by step. Don't give up. My english is not good enough to find the words I am looking for. Nevertheless feel free to contact me if you like. I wish you the strength to find that ray of light that will lead you out of the darkness.

I'm sure the intent is good, and it does touch my heart as a person with depression. But it' seems a bit simplistic and naive to me. Especially the part about how the world is just waiting to give us a hand. In reality, people with depression are often on the receiving end of judgement and compassion fatigue. That's part of what makes is isolating.

Replying to an old comment but agree so much. Just had a major depressive episode and no one close to me actually cared... I was expecting that but still hurt.
