Canadian Girl Makes A PowerPoint To Convince Her Parents To Get A Cat, And It Goes Viral
Persuasion is an art form, and this little girl has already mastered it.
On August 25, 2020, Toronto resident Christopher Doyle tweeted a PowerPoint presentation that his daughter had created, arguing why their family needs to get a cat. And she has made some funny and, most importantly, solid arguments, too.
For example, in a slide titled “Pros of getting a Cat”, the girl said that “since it’s a cat, you don’t have to take it outside every day for walks.” She also realized the responsibility that comes with a pet and promised to clean the “litter box” and take care of the animal in general.
The girl added she has researched about getting a cat for the past five years and vowed to never “slack off” on her duties.
After Doyle shared the presentation online, it immediately went viral, and his daughter even used its Internet fame for additional leverage. Smart one, this kid.

Doyle said that his daughter wanted to adopt a black cat because they are often the most neglected due to the superstitions surrounding them.
It’s true. Kentucky Humane Society Communications Director Andrea Blair said that the organization has concerned people posting on their Facebook page, pleading with them to cease all-black cat adoptions near Halloween every year. “They have the very best intentions, but the unintended consequences are the perpetuation of the myth – which leads to black cats spending even more time in shelters.”
According to Blair, “Because of their common color, [black cats] are the [ones] who are most likely to be overlooked in favor of cats with more varied color patterns. Black cats often take two to three times longer to get adopted.”
However, despite his daughter’s strong arguments, Doyle is still hesitant about adopting a cat because his wife is allergic to them.
People on social media, on the other hand, were very impressed by the girl’s presentation and some even suggested breeds that wouldn’t affect his wife.
People were really supporting her

Share on FacebookJust checked his Twitter for an update (Aug. 28) and they're filling out adoption papers! I'm very excited for is daughter.
I'm 51, and was never able to have children....but if I had been able to, I would have hoped and wished and "prayed" for a little one as smart and clever as this little girl is! There would have been no way I could have said "No" to her request, that she wished I would 'please consider.' My god, at this rate, this smart daughter should have two cats, not just one! I'm sold!
Just get her the cat. Honestly I don’t understand how people even survive without cats. How do you live such a companionless and cute-free life? Just seems like hell. Living without cats ain’t living lol
"Doyle said that his daughter wanted to adopt a black cat because they are often the most neglected due to the superstitions surrounding them." That's it. GET HER A CAT!!!!
My darling black cat was in the shelter for almost 4 YEARS before I got to adopt him, and he is the greatest kitty ever. He is now 12 years old, happy and healthy and the sweetest boy. To sum up, this little girl should have two kitties, at least one all-black -- she will be the best cat-lady-in-training ever!
Load More Replies...I've owned cats since 6. I'm now 39. I just got my first black cat. Showed up on my doorstep. She's so sweet! We call her ink. She's part stuffed a**l. Zero resistance. Just a love. I also rescued a 13 yr old w bad hips. She's treated with cbd and is now 15..and my third cat stella was found in a trash can byy son on his b day..she's a bit sketchy but loves belly rubs on her terms.
Load More Replies...Worked out, hm? Great, that! Cats are great - they demand their rights on their own, they chose the best humans of those available to enslave the furthest, which usually pays off well ... people who lived with animals in the childhood, to me, seem more reasonable, more capable of seeing stuff through other one's eyes, more gentle, ... and, of course, an adopted cat in a loving home is a happy cat, and making one cat happy who wasn't before makes this world better.
I made a 500 worded word essay to convince my parents but still no!
Oh I'm sorry dear. When you're on your own, get 6. Lol. My son flew a cat in under the radar by telling me he found her in the trash clinging to life as a tiny kitten. Lol. He's since moved out but left me the kitty so I wouldn't be so devistated.
Load More Replies...Where I live, the shelter won't adopt out black animals (cats or dogs) for the whole month of October. It's b/c there are incidents of people killing them for being bad luck, for "pranks" on Halloween, and worse. (Is there worse? Yeah. Target practice. One animal was *spiked to a beam while alive* about 15 years ago... For being a black cat.) Soooo..... SAVE THE BLACK CATS!!!
Oh I hate people. I'm glad your town gaf. Mine does too. Zero kill shelters in my state. We fly them in from kill states and adopt them out country wide.

I loved my fish..they're all gone now. Had them many years..
Load More Replies...My friend has a daughter who they have told for years that if she makes straight A's they would get her a rabbit. One day the daughter says to her mom, "I got straight A's now for 5 years and I still don't have a rabbit. If we don't go get a rabbit this weekend then these will be the last A's you ever see." My friend was on a business trip so the mother took her out and they got some rabbits...then some more...and another. My friend initially freaked out, threw a fit, bitched up a storm. Now his Facebook is full of rabbits and he hangs out in his garage (new home office since COVID) and has four rabbits on his lap. Watches football with them, spends his entire day with them, and researches different kinds and breeds them. He is the rabbit man. The rabbits are his life. His wife told me "I think he loves them more than he love us at this point, but at least he finally stopped bitching and our daughter is still on the honor roll."
I grew up in a pet shop (small business located in our house) and my parents WOULDN'T LET ME HAVE A CAT! Fast forward a couple of decades: my parents sold the business and bought a farm. My father ended up wit 17 strays. Moral of the story: don't waste your time arguing rationally with parents.
Lol. It's funny..until you get a cat..you don't realize how much you needed one.

When I was 8 I told my Mom I had wished all white cats existed. She looked at me, with a little disappointment in her eyes for I was far too old to not know they, in fact, did, and told me they were a thing. Fast forward to a week later. I walk in the door after school to find my sister jumping around excitedly, speaking incoherently. There, behind her, was an all white, tiny kitten. My mom said she found the last one in all of the metro area. We named her Misty. She was a star and beloved family jewel. She lived to be 21 years old. We only just lost her a few years ago. Today, I have two white beauties of my own. I guess I've never quite gotten over their magic and wonder! So glad that little girl will get her kitty!
Um this is embarrassing, but just the other day I realized I did this again (25yrs later)! I've also wanted a ragdoll cat since the moment I heard of them. They are pointed cats so I never figured they could be white. Nope, I was wrong. I own 2 bi-color, mitted, cream point ragdolls!! They are the best!!!

How old is this kid? Makes a lot of difference, since younger kids tend to slack off on litter duty a lot sooner than older ones.
Old enough to create a power point. She got this!

I have a trash kitty! She a queen! Like seriously I feel guilty rn for calling her that 🤣
Load More Replies...im going to try this on my parents, i have wanted a cat or dog since i was 4 and im 11 now
My son was 16 when he brought home a tiny kitten claiming he found it in the trash. My boy has since moved out and has his own family..2 cats. Lol. I got to keep the kitty when he moved. Lessened my devistation. Show mom n dad my story..or better yet..use the I found it in the trash one instead kiddo. Good luck. Every kid needs a cat!
Load More Replies...I suspect the parents are saying no because they know cats are like tattoos: you never get just one.
Haha! I have 3 cats...one tattoo. Lmfao.
Load More Replies...There are no such thing as hypoallergenic cats because it's not the fur that's the problem, it's skin oils and saliva, but other than that, cute story. 🙂
And it's actually the dander..so even a non hypo cat if kept clean..is hypo.
Load More Replies...I tried this once. It failed miserably. I do have a cat though but at my Dad’s house. I wanted one at my Mom’s.
My brother and his wife have a one-eyed dog because their kids, Team Veldt Monkeys {long story}, convinced their dumb parents that they would walk the yap rat, most of the time. HA!!! If those Canadian parents think that their kid will do most of the litterbox cleaning .... I want the drugs they are on.
Oh but how hard is that!? Cat s**t is buried and easily scooped. Unless they just dropped one the stink is no worse then hour own.
Load More Replies...The post details are vague. Maybe I missed it but they don't state how old the girl is so she may not be young at all. The level of PowerPoint presentation isn't of a little child. I think it's either fake or the girl who made it is not young at all
It doesn't say she's a little kid and kids learn PP pretty young in school these days, often around third or fourth grade.
Load More Replies...Anyone saying no because of allergies should know they have a shot now that eliminates cat allergies! No kidding!
I promise to feed it, give it water and clean the litter box. Three months later, dad is feeding, watering and cleaning the litter box. anywho, cats are awesome pets.
Riot Fest did the right thing. Threats always work! I wish I could be the bouncer and be like: "excuse me, are you *reads from card* Chris Doyle? If so, GET A CAT BEFORE COMING BACK HERE!"
When I learned in school how to write a comment, I wrote one to my parents to convince them I needed a dog. I spent weeks, rephrasing it,looking for better and more convincing examples etc. They read it and said “no“ and handed it back to mehr. If parents absolutely dont want a pet you can do whatever you want..if they do, it's probably enough to simply talk to them. Not saying that it's not cute. I'm happy for her.
My hubby said no pets but hrs my second husband and I have kids with my previous. He was a cat guy so we got along well there. My son came home one day with a cat he "found in the trash clinging to life".. I was hooked on the adorable baby and so was my hubby. Took him 7 years to tell me it really took him all day trying to catch her from his grandmother ( and owner of 29 cats) barn. Lol. She was ferel. Lol. My son has since moved, but presented me with the kitty as a gift for me when he left. I know have 3.5.. ones owned by everyone..lol. 2 of them sleep on my hubby and he calls our black cat ink, mike-a. After himself.🤣

You're wrong. And it's dander...not saliva..not hair. Look it up. I lived with a girl w severe cat allergies but she looooved cats. She had 2. Mine bothered her but hers didn't. They were hypo! Btw..there's a shot for that now!
Load More Replies...I beg to disagree. I was 13 when my parents let me get a cat. I cleaned the box constantly. My parents never had to, except for once, when I got scarlet fever at 15, and they lovingly did that task. I fed her every day, played with her. And my entire family enjoyed her companionship. But all the rest of the stuff you said, yeah.
