ToothyBJ, the talented comic artist, shared insights into his creative process and motivations during an interview with Bored Panda. For him, the most rewarding aspect of being a comic artist lies in the community engagement. He thrives on the exhilarating experience of earning laughter from a vast audience, likening it to the satisfaction of making an entire room burst into laughter with a well-timed joke among friends. This sense of earned joy keeps him motivated to continually create and deliver humor that resonates with people.

In ToothyBj's strips, the characters are quite unique and memorable. We were wondering how the illustrator develops characters that fit the tone of the series. We learned that: “I just let myself be cringe, it's important to accept it and let it flow. No matter what you do, a good number of people are gonna get pissed. Might as well have fun with it and make them really pissed.”

Asked about his personal favorite storyline among his comics, which the illustrator particularly enjoyed creating, ToothyBj said: “I don't have defined storylines, or even long running series. If I had to pick a comic close to my heart would be The Abyss, I had a ton of fun with that one and still look back at it fondly.”

We also wanted the cartoonist to tell us what makes humor an effective medium for storytelling. ToothyBj shared with us: “A joke helps make bad news easier to digest. When you grow old you only get bad news, so you have to develop a sort of buffer to keep yourself sane.”

Lastly, we were curious about what dark humor work is ToothyBj’s favorite. The illustrator said: “Papa Meat from Meat Canyon. Absolute banger of an animator, a total class act.”
