I Challenged Myself To Photograph Children With Their Dogs, And Here Are The Best 21 Photos
Hey! I'm Vicky and I love a good challenge. So, I thought I would work on a photography project that involved taking pictures of kids with their dogs! Yep... kids can be difficult to take photos of by themselves, so are dogs by themselves. Together is another story, but hey, it worked!
As if this wasn't a challenge enough, I did this photography project in frigid Canadian January weather! Some of these photos were taken in -20 degrees Celsius. But it was a blast! The kids actually loved the experience and were all troopers! They really just loved being able to share this moment with their dogs and tell me all about them! I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Move Over Ladies!
During Covid, I noticed how important pets became to children. How they helped them deal with loneliness. Pets helped kids during homeschooling by just being beside them. This inspired me to undertake a photography project involving kids and dogs. I wanted to illustrate in images some of the special bonds they can have.
Working in these extreme weather conditions had some challenges. The kids were actually great with the cold, the wind, and the blowing snow! It was mainly my hands and my camera that were giving out. Before each shoot, I had already thought of the pose we were going for, so it made the process easier. Each shoot took no more than 15 minutes.
Smooch
I love working with kids! While working with them, I wanted to make sure to make them comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I approached it as a game, as a fun storytelling experience. I explained to them that we were creating a scene, like characters role-playing, and they understood right away.

I ♥️ It who is ver took this if plays his/her card right could be FAMOUS
If it comes to some memorable moments during the series, I remember how during one of the shoots as we were setting up, the wind picked up and a blizzard showed up out of nowhere! The snow was blowing and we could barely see anything! But we pushed through and managed to snap the shot in a moment of calmness.
Snuggles
Speaking of my approach to the editing and post-processing of the photos to enhance the storytelling aspect, I already know that I wanted a storybook feel to the images. I started in Lightroom and then made all my adjustments, which included some "painting" over the background.
Lastly, while working on this project, I witnessed unique interactions or bonds between children and their dogs. Most of them show so much love and care towards their dogs. They acted like their protector. The kids were just amazing too and loved showing me how much they love their pup, like catching a kiss for example.

I'm going to be 100% honest, respectfully in only my opinion and say maybe they're a liiiiiiiiiittle over edited; HOWEVER, your work is beautiful and it's a very sweet idea. No offense meant. I would be delighted to receive any one of these.
Yahnno I thought the same thing too too much of the same editing in my opinion but I wasn't sure if this was on purpose or not they are great but I feel if the editing was toned down these would be even better at least not blurry the backgrounds as much make it look like they aren't photoshopped in.
Load More Replies...Thank you for posting these lovely photos, they brought back so many memories . The bond between a child and dog is a precious thing. Max the Weimaraner was more like a sibling than a pet to my daughter. His unconditional love and loyalty saw us through many rough spots in life. Still miss him 30 years later.
These are the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen! So magical, I'm obsessed!
I adored this! Who doesn't love pups and kiddos! ❤ Thank you for posting.
I'm a horrible person. I barely noticed the children but went awwwwwww over all the dogs!
