Black cats are thought to bring bad luck—but we think they’re absolutely adorable, ultra pettable, and cuddletastic. Not to mention utterly magnificent and, really, just tinier versions of noble panthers. That’s why Bored Panda compiled this mega-awesome super-duper massively-fluffy list of the cutest and funniest pictures of black cats.
There are plenty of superstitions surrounding black cats. Sadly, some of them are negative. For instance, in the Middle Ages, cats were thought to have a close link to black magic and witchcraft. In fact, these adorable cats were thought to be witches in disguise! This led to a lot of kitties ending up hurt as they were punished alongside witches in 13th century Europe and 17th century Massachusetts. Nowadays, black cats are still sometimes seen as symbols of the mystical. And what Halloween party is complete without someone dressing up as a cute cat or putting up a prop of a feline in a witch’s hat?

My twin black cats that like to sleep mirrored did this position last night
The other major superstition associates black cats with bad luck and, by extension, death. Once again, this belief has its roots in the Middle ages when it was thought that not only dark cat fur colors but any dark colored animals were linked with death.
In 16th-century Italy, for example, if a black cat were to lie down on someone’s sickbed, it was thought that death (or rather Death with a capital “D”) was about to pay them a visit.
In most western cultures, these beautiful cats are considered a bad omen. But in Scottish lore, the arrival of a strange black cat signifies prosperity
In modern times, some of us still hang onto the belief that if a black cat crosses your path, you’ll be in for some bad luck. Similarly, a white cat crossing your path is said to bring good luck. But do you know what we think? We believe that a cute cat crossing your path is definitely great luck.
When we take a closer look at different cultures, we realize that they have different understandings of what encountering a black cat means. For instance, in ancient Egypt, darker cat colors were considered good luck, protected you from disease, and gave a boost to your fertility.

Meanwhile, in Japan, spotting a black cat means that you’ll have luck finding love. While seeing a cat on your porch or in your doorway implies that you’ll be prosperous soon. Similarly, in France, seeing a black cat meant that something magical was about to happen.
It’s great to know that not all superstitions are stereotypically negative. Especially considering how many black cats we’ve crammed into this list!

The first clear photo I ever got of my black cat was from my pet sitter! That was before I had smart phones and a fancy camera! He will be 17 in May 🥰
yes, I have a black Maine C**n and he is not very photogenic... I literally can't see him in photos unless I lighten it up x10.

The photo I shot of two majestic jaguars playing at the Xcaret eco-park in Quintana Roo, Mexico, turned out like this. You could see the yellow jaguar but some parts of it, as well as bits of the surrounding area, had a black blob on it. It looked like something had gone wrong with the development of the film. Yes, the film, twenty-some years ago. The black jaguar was so black that it did not photograph well at all, it was as though all the light had disappeared into its' fur..
I thought this photo I took of my black cat shows off how amazing their eyes are
This is what I saw when I woke from my nap...
Give the older shelter kitties a chance. Best hugs ever

Isn't Crookshanks orange though? I could totally see Hermione being a crazy cat lady though.
Load More Replies...I have a black cat and all it does is bring joy to the family the may say there bad luck but there not they may be a cat and knock over a few things but that’s a cat so I think all cats are good and a black cat us the cherry on top to the cat family.
Idk why people think black cats are unlucky... If I came across one of these cuties I'd consider myself very lucky!
Black cats rule! It's only in America that black cats are considered bad luck. Over here on the other side of the Atlantic, they were always considered good luck. But perhaps it's best not to determine one's future by the colour of a cat! :-D
Iggy, and how that superstition got to America? It came with the people from the other side of the Atlantic.
Load More Replies...Always have owned black cats. They are just as wonderful as all other felines. (Typed while Black Dahlia sits on my lap!)
While I was reading these, my cat tried to jump onto a stack of books on a stool, missed, fell in a graceless heap, popped up, looked around to see if anyone noticed, then tried to casually walk it off. While I was typing, he tried again, made it this time, then proceeded to knock the books off the stool, one by one, in spiteful cat fashion.
LOL, my cat is making a fuss right now, because I'm looking at other cats.
Who could look at these innocent, sweet little faces and call them bad luck?! 🐈⬛ 💕
I currently have an all white cat but before him I fostered several black cats. My first cat was all black. They have all been loving cats. RIP Ruthie.
Probably just me, but looking at these loved little kitties, made me cry (but I've been crying at everything today so 🤷♀️ lol).
You need to go hug a cat. I hope your day gets better

They are all so lovely. They have a magic all their own. They give so much love. I adopted an adorable darkling last year. I am bewitched.
I made another comment that said "A lot of these look just like my cats" but I was only able to upload one image, so here is the other cat (The grey and white cat is my other cat named Henri, I have three cats) Screenshot...c572a3.png
I have a black cat (i think russian blue) and he is always a pleasure to be around
Black cats are my favorite! Well, so are tuxedos, orange, tabbies, long-hair, short-hair..... Pen-and-Me...c-jpeg.jpg
ANyone here that feels the absolute need to get that house panther - every shelter has some. Those are the ones we like to take home - especially the older ones. Priceless.
I love my black kitties. The ones I have now both found their way to me. The first was a sibling to the kitten of my former neighbor. She came home with two kittens after losing one of her cats and figured it was too much to have two. That was 17 years ago. And 7 years ago, when my family had already grown with a human kiddo, my husband heard a kitten crying his little lungs out downstairs (we live in an apartment) in the rain underneath a car. There are a lot of cats that aren't taken care of here in the neighborhood, so we took him upstairs. We tried to find his owner, he wasn't chipped, he came into our home and just totally made it his. His eyes are a little wonkey and he has knock knees, but he's such a love bug. And an *ssh*le to his big brother at times. But most of the time a true love bug.
These pictures remind me of Winnie the witch and her black cat Wilbur. Cute story how they live in a black house and Wilbur blends into his surroundings. I use to have a black cat and a white orientals when my children were young they looked like ting and yang when they slept together. Most gorgeous cats miss them.

Everyone needs a black cat. I have had one (different ones) for 40 years.
I've been owned by two black cats in my life and they've been fabulous, awesome, wonderful blessings and treasures. My last black cat cemented a partiality for black cats in me and I sorely want to be owned by another one ASAP (my current feline owner is a dilute calico. She's 11, adopted her in Nov. '18 from the local Humane Society).

In England a black cat crossing the road used to be considered as good luck but I think now we have started to change it so they are bad luck. Black cats have always been my favourite though.
My first cat was a pitch black Angora-mix adoption. They called her 'Spooks' because she was so skittish and shy, and it took about six months for her to come out around us. But once she got comfortable, she was the sweetest, most darling ball of fluff. All she wanted was to be held, petted, and to sleep with her humans all the time. One night my depression was extremely bad and I couldn't sleep; she crawled in bed with me, laid right by my face, and let me cry into her fur until I fell asleep. She was still there when I woke up, too, and didn't move until I got up. I miss her so much! Q.Q She lived a long, happy life and just peacefully passed away one day.
