Hello! My name is Nathanna Érica and I'm an illustrator and paper artist based in São Paulo, Brazil.
Having been born in such a vibrant and diverse country allowed me to see the world through some very rainbow colored lenses (I even see colors in numbers and days of the week, it’s no joke!) and I try to express all the colorful mess that I call a brain into my art. When I started working with paper, I discovered that I could go even further in terms of textures, movement and, once again, color. For me, these three elements are essential to every piece I create, and that’s why I’ll always be working on a mermaid or two, or on some magical realm of enchanted macaws. Gee, what wouldn’t I give to live in a place like that?
My main source of inspiration is nature, its shapes and patterns, as well as the many different cultures around the world and of course, movies and everything related to the art of filmmaking. Like many artists, early animation films have defined most of my childhood and I think it shows on my drawing style and use of color and composition. I love telling stories and I found out that using paper, texture and color allows me to be a better storyteller.
Even though I’ve always considered myself an artist at heart, it took me five years of Law school to decide that doing anything else other than being an artist would be impossible.

I can't figure it out - are her elbows bending the wrong way, or are her feet backwards?
Hitchcock's Rear Window! What a wonder representation of a classic movie. I love your imagination, and how perfectly recreated.
These are all gorgeous, not a single dud, but your Audrey Hepburns shine out even among the rest <3

Dear Nathanna, you are very talented! your work is beautiful! carry on! :) <3
Judging from what she says about seeing days of the week as colors she has Synesthesia. Other people who have had this were Duke Ellington, Vincent Van Gogh, Marilyn Monroe, Vladimir Nabokov and Itzhak Perlman. It is a fascinating condition that has been known to be linked slightly with autism. I am especially drawn to this thread because I am a paper artist but I also have a corollary condition (musical ear syndrome) not in any way related and recently found out that other people have it. I also found out through that about a friend who has synesthesia. I wonder if it makes people more creative...?
Very interesting. Synesthesia is a curious phenomenon although I have always wondered how many people actually experience it and how many other just enjoy the 'idea' behind it while they merely assign colors to things or people out of fun. I had never heard about 'musical ear syndrome' before: Do you experience tinnitus, musical hallucinations or both?
Load More Replies...Your work is exquisite. I would love to know what kind of paper you use to create such movement in your designs. It looks like it could really be fabric. Do you hand cut your paper or make patterns and use a cutting machine? I want to try to make a Cinderella layered art piece for my grandson's wife for Christmas. I make some kind of Cinderella art for her for every birthday and Christmas. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work for inspiration. You are so talented.
