I think this was a really powerful statment because it comes from a Muslim man who clearly wants his daughter to be free to behave as a 7 year old child should. He also demonstrates that he is trapped into following a social requirement that is upsetting his daughter. This man's statment and the Facebook page that it comes from is insperational. I live in Australia and I went to school with quite a few Muslim teenage girls. They all covered their hair and wore long skirts but they did it willingly, they found it empowering not to 'have' to have their hair perfect or legs waxed and tanned like other girls at school. They respected my choice to wear pants and a t-shirt and I respected their choice to cover themselves, all 4 of us got along well. Ironically they all tollerated the heat better than I did lol.

You do know that's culture and NOT religion? In Islam, woman is required to cover when she reaches puberty. However, it is a matter of choice. Islam does NOT force a woman to cover. It is the culture and the people. PLEASE read up on what Islam is really is and don't believe everything the media say. I am really sorry that you have such a bad image of what is Islam is.
