‘Creepy PMs’: 30 Screenshots Of The Weirdest Private Messages People Have Ever Received, Shared On This Online Group
A recent report from Pew Research Center has shown that roughly 4 in 10 of US adults have personally experienced online harassment. 75% of people, stated that the majority of abuse happens on social media, and 24% of the abused indicated that texting or messaging apps were where their most recent experience occurred.
Recently, Instagram has launched a new feature to filter abusive messages in DMs. Twitter has also revealed a new prompt that asks users to think twice before posting an abusive message. However, the problem of online harassment seems to have permeated all layers of our online presence, and these tools may reach just the tip of the problematic iceberg.
So in order to see what really happens in these dark pages of private messages where people are constantly made to feel really uncomfortable, the subreddit r/CreepyPMs has shed some light on things that end up in our inboxes.
“A place for people to share the strange and disturbing PMs they get from all over the internet,” says the group’s description and it’s honestly the part of the internet we all would be better off without.

I love when I get BS scams like this, my favourite so far is "we have NSFW images of you taken from your webcam and we will send them to your facebook friends if you don't send us £6000 in bitcoin." I'd maybe have paid them some of that money for the magic show they would have to perform considering I don't even have a webcam (nor do I have a facebook account, except for one that is unused but I had to create to set up my Occulus)

Some Trump supporter tried to catfish me with pictures of his daughter for some reason. He had changed the profile name but a lot of his old posts and pictures were public so it was clearly a middle aged man. That was the worst executed scam attempt I've experienced.

I am not one to involve the police at the drop of a hat, I grew up in a place where the cops really were bastards. But a few years ago a festering pustule masquerading as a man had a conversation along these lines with me regarding my DAUGHTER. I called the police so fast it made his head spin. Dumbass was out on remand at the time so guess who was granted 2 more years at her majesty's pleasure? I remember thinking "Ok, one of us is going to prison today and frankly I'm happy either way if that means I get to break my fist on his face..."

Whenever I deal with an insecure douche like these ones, I always resort to 1) the fragile masculinity or 2) the underlying homophobia most men have. Something referencing them having a small dïck or implying they're interested in other guys instead of the female they're harassing or insulting. Works like a charm.
