Countries might be loosening lockdown restrictions, but the coronavirus hasn’t gone away. There are a total of 10.3 million confirmed cases of infected worldwide and 2.59 million of these are in the United States alone, according to Johns Hopkins University. Brazil stands in second place with over 1.37 million cases while Russia has 640k confirmed infections. Meanwhile, India has nearly 567k cases, and the United Kingdom has 313k.
A lot of people are asking the question: why is America number 1 in the world when it comes to Covid-19 infections? It’s a complicated issue with no easy answers. However, some people on the internet are posting anecdotal evidence about how "bad" some Americans are with following coronavirus guidelines. Scroll down to have a look, dear Pandas, and upvote your faves. Oh, and keep in mind that different sources provide slightly different numbers of people who have been infected with the virus.
You can see up-to-date details about the coronavirus pandemic by visiting the Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 dashboard right here. It’s a great tool to use for more in-depth understanding and wider context on this health crisis.

In the US, more than 126k people have died with or because of the coronavirus. In some states, infection cases are soaring again, and plans to ease lockdown measures have been put on hold in some areas.
For example, even though the Fourth of July celebrations are approaching, Texas and some parts of California have ordered bars to close again.
On Saturday, June 27, the US recorded over 43k new coronavirus cases. Florida alone recorded 9,585 new cases in 24 hours on Saturday, which was a new daily record for the state. Georgia, Nevada, and South Carolina also reported new daily infection records.
Just to keep you on your toes, you ought to know that scientists in China have identified a new strain of flu that has the potential to become a new pandemic.
The new flu strain is carried by pigs but, according to researchers, it can infect human beings, too. There are fears that the strain could mutate even more and easily spread from human to human.
I agree that the medical staff needs better gear and equipment to fight this pandemic and I know that I might get trashed here but I think addressing police as killers is wrong, not every cop is a killer, most of them try to keep us safe.
The internet never forgets. But how does someone change 180 degrees like that in just a few years?
I think it follows the logic of toddlers who close their eyes with their hands and think that no-one can see them
"if you are sick, still come, it's your right" does make it sound like an evil plot...
I think that it's Isaac Asimov who said that the US is a country where being smart and being dumb are equally worshipped. That anyone's opinion is worthy, no matter how dumb or ignorant. He said that that was the main difference between the US and the rest of the world. His words have never been truer.
Is this the quote you were thinking of? "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

The "I"s don't want to wear masks, don't want to isolate, don't want to protect others, don't care about the rights and lives of others, whether it's BLM, or LGBTQ. They are in it for themselves. And then when something bad happens to them, they want all the resources for themselves and expect to be prioritized. Then the "we"s care about everybody as much as they do about themselves. It also seems to me that the "I"s are frequently right wingers and the "we"s are often left wingers. There's my observation for the day.
Speaking as an American, not all of us behave this way. Some of us are complying with the safety protocols and doing our best to stop the spread of COVID19. What makes me mad about all of these who refuse to take it seriously is that my father, who is a kidney transplant patient, has been confined to his home for the past two months because of COVID19 and these people are running around complaining because they have to wear a mask. These people are the reason that people like my dad could get sick.
I am pretty sure the rest of the world is not unhappy to watch dumb Americans curl up and die. But, unfortunatley, there are tons of nice and normal peeps in the US and they suffer from this idiocy, too.
I feel really sorry for the perfectly intelligent US citizens who have to put up with not just Trump and covidiots but also US bashing. I have always liked the Americans I have met both in the UK and when in the US.

Her son who is now 12 was adopted by her but prior to that he had been adopted by my best friend who died when he was 5 after being abandoned by his birth mother. I am sad that my friend died but it has been very hard knowing this little boy has known so much death in such a short life. Even if we dont think this effects us directly it is very selfish to not do you best to keep yourself and others around you protected. The idea that this is being done to destroy peoples lively hoods and small business is really stupid to me. If you dont want to wear a mask fine, keep your but at home. The cases in my area have sky rocketed since every started opening back up and I am sure part is due to back logged testing but I dont think that most of it is. I would love to get back to normal but I am not willing to risk my life, the life of my family or any strangers because I need a damn haircut or something so menial.
It's simple. American culture is predicated on individualism. This unfortunately overlaps significantly with "selfishness". Too many Americans don't take it seriously, think they know better, or just don't care about issues that can affect the collective population if it impacts them individually.
I don't blame you, but the border's closed, probably for the next several months. Please vote out the MAGAt. Thanks.

It makes shopping extremely stressful, especially when they ignore social distancing and get in my bubble. Covid isn't super prevalent in my county, but it IS here. The fact that something I can't even see could potentially kill me or my children terrifies the hell out of me. I don't care how slim the chances are, I'm wearing a mask, keeping my distance and taking every other precaution I can think of. If we had ALL done this from the start, this s**t would be over and done with and we really could go back to life as normal. Instead I get to make the difficult decision of whether or not to send my child to what will qualify as public school in a few months. And it's all because of idiots like these. I'd slap them, but that would mean getting close to them.

It never ceases too amaze me how dumb many Americans are. They're so caught up on "you don't tell me how to live my life" to think a little about others. So what if it even was a hoax (what it definitely ISN'T) what harm do it do to distance yourself from others and wearing face masks? It's not like it hurts. It's saving lives instead.

The United States has become one big, fat all-you-can-eat buffet for both SARS-CoV-2 and H1N1. Just wait until the next flu season rolls around.
It will make this summer look like the bloom of health. Covid will likely still be rampant. These people are definitely not thinking long term, they're lack of care will just make it take longer for the pandemic to end. Wouldn't be surprised if we are the last country to be Covid free by some months

Why do some of these shop owners think wearing a face mask is an actual danger for their employees?
I wonder how long it will take before America becomes an empty country ready for re-colonisation
I feel pity for all the reasonable people who just have to cope with all these idiots. Hopefully COVID will take mostly these idiots, so it may be for the better in the end.
People got coronavirus when they are gathering in large crowds. Except when they protest because it's a biological fact that covid-19 respects the BLM movement...
Most protesters tried their best to social distance, wear masks, and use hand sanitizer. As a result, very few COVID cases have been traced back to the protests (https://www.businessinsider.com/black-lives-matter-protests-are-not-fueling-coronavirus-outbreaks-2020-6; https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/24/us/coronavirus-cases-protests-black-lives-matter-trnd/index.html, among other articles), while significantly more cases are from the anti-mask protests and the premature reopening of public spaces.

We live in a country where ignorance and stupidity are prized. It is beyond disheartening.
As with any major world event, we will continue to reflect upon it and discuss for generations. But can you imagine the great, great grand children of current Americans being taught in history classes of "The Great Plague" that persisted for a decade, wiped out 40% of America's population and destroyed the economy of a once great world power... While the rest of the planet teach their kids about "the very serious virus that had the potential to kill many more people, but was brought under control and eliminated within 18 months because the public followed strict advice from scientific and medical experts, that helped keep everyone safe." Then the kids leave the history class and head off to biology, to learn all about Darwinism.
I wonder how some people make it home every day. They're clearly idiots.
Watching from Canada as America crumbles is heartbreaking and frustrating. So much potential, but so little progress. It's the only country in the world where wearing a mask has become a political issue. Is science not taught in school?
