This happened in New Jersey, when the dog by the name of Curry was walking with its owner.

When Curry suddenly began to bark and ran up the bear chasing him.

“He has been doing this for 5 years or more, this is his job. We have children and he has stopped a lot of bears and coyotes. This dog saved my children and some others many times for being on guard.” – says the owner of the dog.

Does NJ have fines or any other kind of punishment for harrassing wildlife? If so, somebody needs to throw the book at this guy.

Why the hell did he send his dog after a bear in the first place????

What an idiot. That bear was minding it's own and he sent his dog into a possibly fatal situation. He should be charged with tormenting wildlife and endangerment to animals. I walk my dog in bear territory all the time and when we come across one we go the other way, not engage the creature.

Heel is a verbal command to come to your side. It doesn’t mean kill. The dog’s instinct is to protect and that’s what he was doing. While he shouldn’t have been off leash, I strongly believe if not for that dog, it could have been the demise of that man had he continued.
