This one confuses me. Did OP think that the mother-in-law froze the leftovers to be mean and then OP froze MIL's candies in retaliation? Am I misunderstanding something? It seems like MIL froze the leftovers to keep them fresh and didn't know OP was going to come back and eat more later but OP doesn't do things that way so thought MIL was being rude and decided to freeze MIL's candies as "payback".

There are foldable chopsticks that come in a cute little container. If I were to travel to a country that doesn't use chopsticks, I'd bring my own and not risk confusing the waiter/server.
