The woman began her post with a brief introduction: she’s 30 years old and her “brother” is 32. She was adopted as a baby – yet, she wasn’t aware of this until she was already in high school. The OP also added that she never felt betrayed, nor did she ever care because she has a great family.

The couple’s relationship was great – they understood each other quickly and they were both really attracted to each other. The OP revealed that she’s never met a person to whom she felt such an immediate attraction and familiarity. However, she has a couple of guesses as to why everything felt so easy: the boyfriend with whom she shared a bed and did all the things that a normal couple would is actually her brother – not even her half-brother but her full brother.

The one thing that the OP emphasizes is their agreement to remain childfree; she said she doesn’t want to deal with possible health complications and have to raise a kid with them knowing that their mommy and daddy are siblings.

Once she discovered this information, she didn’t tell her boyfriend. She hoped that the DNA company had made a mistake – however, she did confess that things began to make sense. The pair would always receive those “You guys look so alike” or “He’s the male version of you” remarks. They would usually laugh it off, but she spent the whole morning looking at their pictures and realized that they indeed do look like each other.
She eventually revealed the discovery to her boyfriend – however, he said he didn’t want to freak out until they had done a “real” test

If you love each other and can safely say you don't want kids then someone needs to get fixed to avoid it accidentally happening. You can both adopt if you want to share your life with a child later on. And keep this in the closet between you both. You both didn't know. You're both adults. And if you don't mind it just think that you're the closest soul mates you can be.

I would have to agree as well, although much care, thought, communication and commitment would have to go into staying together and one or both of them getting "fixed". If they grew apart because life is uncertain that could be hazardous in many ways.

I agree. This is the right answer. They should stay together if they want. There isnt any inherent issue with dating your brother. The issue is inbreeding. They need to get one of them sterilized.

There is definitely an inherent issue with dating a sibling, except for cases like this. They aren't sibling in any way other than biologically, if they had grown up together it would be much different and much more disgusting. As they are, I'd say keep the no kids decision and act like you never found out. It's kind of too late anyway honestly

I'm not sure if that's really what they meant. Growing up together as siblings (biological or not) isn't the same as growing up together as friends or neighbors etc. I thought they were referring to the former rather than the latter.

Please stop downvoting Ozacotor. Downvoting gets people banned, sometimes permanently. It is not a dislike button, it is supposed to be a reporting tool for harresment, hate, and spam. BP does not review the comments. It is automated and people will get a message saying they have been banned for suspicious behavior. It is one of BP's biggest flaws. So, Ozacotor's opinion may be different than the norm, or they may be a cultural difference, but they do not deserve to get banned for their comment. If you don't like it, don't upvote it.

Critical thinking ppl. They meant as in growing up in the same household even though they aren’t blood relatives. If a couple tells ppl their step siblings ppl start acting as if they are committing incest even though they aren’t blood related. Not the same as the next door neighbors playing in the sand box together then getting married later in life. Same as grooming. An older guy knowing you as a child or teen and dating you later in life isn’t grooming unless as a child or teen he was inappropriate whether it be comments, looks, “advice” as well as a few other things.. but it’s still seen as taboo and wrong. My family is bizarre. My brothers are my brothers even though we share no consanguinity. I grew up withbthek, on many occasions I shared bedrooms with them. I probably lived with their parents more than I lived with my own. My mom gave me their last name when I was born. My mom and their mom were best friends. I once tried to see if I could.view them as attractive. I REALLY CAN'T TELL!!! I love them, but in a sister kind-of-way. I think I could probably tell if I weren't so close to them. On the other hand, I have always thought my cousin Ben was extremely cute, and didn't know we weren't blood-related until I was 9. I would never have done anything, and still wouldn't, but he is still very attractive and we are in our 40's. His uncle is the man that raised me. Where I come from is nice to know, and I'm glad to have met some.of my bio-fsther's family (Bob), and I'm his only child, but Nate is my dad. He was the one that was there.

I agree with be royal! You had no clue, no shared childhood. With IVF today, there may be many more couples in a similar situation. An example is the fact that TWO of my husband's (yeah married more than once) were actually my COUSINS. We were not adopted, grew up in different areas of the country, but when ancestry research was done (we all did it!) it turned out that I was biologically related to BOTH of them. We just laugh about it. But I do consider my former bil in one instance as my brother, and after my divorce from his brother,(the actual ex husband) we dated for some time as well, including sex, etc. I did get pregnant by him, but had a miscarriage. So stay with your boyfriend. Sounds like you have a good relationship, don't get weirded out now. It's not like a guy I knew that dated his REAL sister. (Grew up together.)

100% agree - I feel like if they'd have grown up together, it's definitely different, but the thing is. they didn't. They were strangers to each other, and their bond has clearly always, for the past 6 years, been a BF/GF bond as opposed to a sibling bond. Is it worth ending a happy relationship over this, when it's something that won't effect any children born, and that no one really has to know?

People are not *ssholes for being disgusted by siblings having romantic relationships. It's taboo for a reason - while their children may not have problems, their grandchildren could & pass those problems down through generations. Also, try living with a serious, painful genetic disease. They are rare because each of your parents have to have half of the code. When you're siblings, the chances just quadrupled. Maybe it's easy for people to judge because theyve never had someone they care about that they can relate to the situation. For me, I have been in a real relationship for seven years, he's the love of my life, and we also decided to never have kids. But if I found out we were related, I couldn't imagine giving up my soul mate today over that. But not everyone is lucky enough to have someone they love that much so I'd imagine it's just hard for them to relate.

B******t. The king James version of the bible was completed in 1611 by just 8 members of the protestant church of England. There were (and still are) NO original texts to survive to translate from. The oldest manuscripts were written down hundreds of years after the last apostle died, from fables spread by mouth. There were around 8,000 of those manuscripts with no two remotely alike. Not that it mattered because the KJV translators used none of these anyway. Instead, they edited previous mistranslations to create a version that adhered to King James' personal Christian ideology because otherwise they would have been executed. So the KJV is a book edited in the 17th-century from 16th-century mistranslations of 8,000 contradictory copies of 4th-century scrolls that claim to be letters from the 1st century.

@Uncle Addy, I can understand your outrage because I find incest gross too. I also do think that it can harm the bloodline at some point if it’s too pervasive but I don’t advocate death or murder or throwing people into a volcano even if you meant that as a joke it’s still not right. The OP and her boyfriend/brother didn’t know for sure that they were even related. I don’t really blame them all that much unless they continue the relationship wether they choose to have kids or not. They can change their minds later on and want to have kids. I do blame the birth parents but mostly the state and adoption agencies that handled their cases because somewhere down the line they should’ve known that the same exact parent (s) were giving away babies for adoption. Never keep the knowledge of blood relationships away from blood because this type of nasty stuff happens.

These people were undoubtedly in foster care and just never told. After all, their parents didn't bother to let them know they were adopted until they were almost adults. It's likely they have other older or younger full siblings nearby too.

They were complete strangers before dating, they live together and have a long term relationship, if they never got tested, this wouldn't be weird, they would be completely unaware. Parent/children relationships are wrong due to the parental connection, same with pairs of siblings because they GREW together, but this doesn't apply here, since they were raised entirely apart and never knew each other, and didn't know their connection before dating, which would be the f****d up part. They are just two random people that share the same set of genes

You use the example “if” it’s not justifiable. From the point they were unaware they’re siblings it wasnt wrong due to the innocence factor but from the moment they knew, it became wrong. It is like when a child does something wrong but isnt aware or know because of innocence. Once they get older and know its wrong, than its wrong period.

Oh well, if not one, but TWO babies are both given up for adoption into DIFFERENT families, and they weren't told about their bio parents' names or the fact they do have a full blooded sibling somewhere, whose fault exactly was that? I'd say keep the secret to the grave. Also, non-blood siblings who grow up together getting hooked up is more disgusting. Also more gross if the relationship is about a father/daughter or mother/son. Since the parent would know they have had produced some kids somehow, and also the age gap for that matter.

For the record, there are a ton of cool people in West Virginia making art, opening businesses, helping their communities, and just trying to live well in spite of chronic disinvestment and a reliance on coal and oil industries that leaves normal people in precarious economic conditions. But there's a ton of natural beauty, a growing eco-tourism industry, and some small cities that are very much up-and-coming. It's worth checking out this wild and wonderful state if you get the chance. I recommend New River Gorge National Park!

I am actually from MD originally but moved to central WV as a child. I find it sad that people think this about us but if it keeps people out- that's great---because it's a beautiful, safe state. I am not a fan of the politics here but I just do my voting and move on with my day. With all that said, I did the DNA tests as well...and if you want to talk about inbreeding... my paternal grandmothers side is a mess.They are from Western NC and Eastern TN--- There are so many double, triple, quadruple cousins...over years and years of marrying into the same families between third cousins and back. I have three times more cousin matches on that side that I do my Maryland family. Thankfully, my paternal grandparents moved to Baltimore, MD to open up the gene pool. My point is, WV gets made fun of for this but it's really an Appalachia thing and quite common in rural America in general during those time periods.

My mother and I both grew up.in the pacific northwest. When she went to marry a guy in texas that was raised in Alabama, they made them have a DNA test done. Ummmmm.... the odds of them being related are slim to none. My mom's ancestors were like Yankees and Texas from wayback. His family pretty much stuck to to southeast. Needless to say, outside of them both coming from Europe in the way Way Way back, there are no ties that could be found (thank God for that I must say). So just because someone is from somewhere doesn't mean everyone that is there is that way. By the way, WV is quite lovey geographically speaking. I have only known one person from there and he is a doctor with 11 children. He eventually bought a bed & breakfast as a residence. If you like beautiful scenery I recommend some of the smaller cities and towns north of Seattle, WA. La Conner is quite beautiful. Anacortes is beautiful until you know about the demographics. 45% are filthy rich, 45% are below poverty level.

They aren't sibling in any way other than biologically, if they had grown up together it would be much different and much more disgusting. I'm not sure if that's really what they meant. Growing up together as siblings (biological or not) isn't the same as growing up together as friends or neighbors etc. I thought they were referring to the former rather than the latter.

If a couple tells ppl their step siblings ppl start acting as if they are committing incest even though they aren’t blood related. Not the same as the next door neighbors playing in the sand box together then getting married later in life. Same as grooming. My family is bizarre. My brothers are my brothers even though we share no consanguinity. I grew up withbthek, on many occasions I shared bedrooms with them. I probably lived with their parents more than I lived with my own. My mom gave me their last name when I was born. My mom and their mom were best friends. I once tried to see if I could.view them as attractive. I REALLY CAN'T TELL!!! I love them, but in a sister kind-of-way. I think I could probably tell if I weren't so close to them. On the other hand, I have always thought my cousin Ben was extremely cute, and didn't know we weren't blood-related until I was 9. I would never have done anything, and still wouldn't, but he is still very attractive and we are in our 40's. His uncle is the man that raised me. Where I come from is nice to know, and I'm glad to have met some.of my bio-fsther's family (Bob), and I'm his only child, but Nate is my dad. He was the one that was there.

I agree with be royal! You had no clue, no shared childhood. With IVF today, there may be many more couples in a similar situation. An example is the fact that TWO of my husband's (yeah married more than once) were actually my COUSINS. We were not adopted, grew up in different areas of the country, but when ancestry research was done (we all did it!) it turned out that I was biologically related to BOTH of them. We just laugh about it. But I do consider my former bil in one instance as my brother, and after my divorce from his brother,(the actual ex husband) we dated for some time as well, including sex, etc. I did get pregnant by him, but had a miscarriage. So stay with your boyfriend. Sounds like you have a good relationship, don't get weirded out now. It's not like a guy I knew that dated his REAL sister. (Grew up together.)

People are not *ssholes for being disgusted by siblings having romantic relationships. It's taboo for a reason - while their children may not have problems, their grandchildren could & pass those problems down through generations. Maybe it's easy for people to judge because theyve never had someone they care about that they can relate to the situation. For me, I have been in a real relationship for seven years, he's the love of my life, and we also decided to never have kids. But if I found out we were related, I couldn't imagine giving up my soul mate today over that. But not everyone is lucky enough to have someone they love that much so I'd imagine it's just hard for them to relate.

B******t. The king James version of the bible was completed in 1611 by just 8 members of the protestant church of England. There were (and still are) NO original texts to survive to translate from. The oldest manuscripts were written down hundreds of years after the last apostle died, from fables spread by mouth. There were around 8,000 of those manuscripts with no two remotely alike. Not that it mattered because the KJV translators used none of these anyway. Instead, they edited previous mistranslations to create a version that adhered to King James' personal Christian ideology because otherwise they would have been executed. So the KJV is a book edited in the 17th-century from 16th-century mistranslations of 8,000 contradictory copies of 4th-century scrolls that claim to be letters from the 1st century.

I don’t really blame them all that much unless they continue the relationship wether they choose to have kids or not. They can change their minds later on and want to have kids. I do blame the birth parents but mostly the state and adoption agencies that handled their cases because somewhere down the line they should’ve known that the same exact parent (s) were giving away babies for adoption. Never keep the knowledge of blood relationships away from blood because this type of nasty stuff happens.

They were complete strangers before dating, they live together and have a long term relationship, if they never got tested, this wouldn't be weird, they would be completely unaware. Parent/children relationships are wrong due to the parental connection, same with pairs of siblings because they GREW together, but this doesn't apply here, since they were raised entirely apart and never knew each other, and didn't know their connection before dating, which would be the f****d up part. They are just two random people that share the same set of genes

Oh well, if not one, but TWO babies are both given up for adoption into DIFFERENT families, and they weren't told about their bio parents' names or the fact they do have a full blooded sibling somewhere, whose fault exactly was that? For the record, there are a ton of cool people in West Virginia making art, opening businesses, helping their communities, and just trying to live well in spite of chronic disinvestment and a reliance on coal and oil industries that leaves normal people in precarious economic conditions. But there's a ton of natural beauty, a growing eco-tourism industry, and some small cities that are very much up-and-coming. It's worth checking out this wild and wonderful state if you get the chance. I recommend New River Gorge National Park!

I am actually from MD originally but moved to central WV as a child. I find it sad that people think this about us but if it keeps people out- that's great---because it's a beautiful, safe state. I am not a fan of the politics here but I just do my voting and move on with my day. With all that said, I did the DNA tests as well...and if you want to talk about inbreeding... my paternal grandmothers side is a mess.They are from Western NC and Eastern TN--- There are so many double, triple, quadruple cousins...over years and years of marrying into the same families between third cousins and back. I have three times more cousin matches on that side that I do my Maryland family. Thankfully, my paternal grandparents moved to Baltimore, MD to open up the gene pool. My point is, WV gets made fun of for this but it's really an Appalachia thing and quite common in rural America in general during those time periods.

My mother and I both grew up.in the pacific northwest. When she went to marry a guy in texas that was raised in Alabama, they made them have a DNA test done. Ummmmm.... the odds of them being related are slim to none. My mom's ancestors were like Yankees and Texas from wayback. His family pretty much stuck to to southeast. Needless to say, outside of them both coming from Europe in the way Way Way back, there are no ties that could be found (thank God for that I must say). So just because someone is from somewhere doesn't mean everyone that is there is that way. By the way, WV is quite lovey geographically speaking. I have only known one person from there and he is a doctor with 11 children. He eventually bought a bed & breakfast as a residence. If you like beautiful scenery I recommend some of the smaller cities and towns north of Seattle, WA. La Conner is quite beautiful. Anacortes is beautiful until you know about the demographics. 45% are filthy rich, 45% are below poverty level.

From your wording, you sound like you're coming from a religious point of view, but if you believe humans came from two people... Then you also believe there's a lot of incest in the human line. Not to mention the choke point of Noah, were again humanity all stem from one family. The Bible has a lot of specific mentions of people marrying their sisters too, including Abraham.
