My name is Camila Echavarría and I am a Colombian artist. The jungle and nature of my native country – Colombia – have had a significant impact on my work. My artistic reflections have been deeply influenced by plants of significant importance to my region, such as Ceibas, Wax Palms, Guayacanes, Yarumos and Heliconias.

My hands shake except when I am painting. That is why I state that my works make the impossible possible. I create unthinkable and unimaginable creations that merge opposite concepts.

With my brush, barcodes intertwine with nature, guiding viewers into a realm where the known merges with the unknown, inviting profound contemplation.
Guided by the intricate dance of Fibonacci, my art achieves a meticulous harmony amidst chaos, a testament to the wonder of mathematics interwoven with creativity.
My artistry has earned me the title of Artist of the Year 2023 at the DSWF exhibition in London. I also showcased my work in exhibitions across Copenhagen, Mallorca, Miami, and Medellin, and shows such as Miami Art, Palm Beach Art, and Wynwood Art.

The juxtaposition of man-made elements, such as barcodes, serves as a reminder of our impact on the environment. These sculptures are a visual narrative, encouraging viewers to appreciate and preserve the natural world while contemplating the consequences of human actions on our surrounding.

While my hands might tremble in the ordinary tasks of life, they find an extraordinary stillness and purpose when embraced by the brush and canvas. In the act of painting, my challenges, like the unsteady hands, fade into the background, and what remains is a dance between creativity and resilience. It’s a therapeutic journey that transcends the physical, allowing me to express with a steadiness that is elusive elsewhere. Painting becomes not just an art but a refuge, transforming challenges into strokes of vibrant possibility.

I aspire for my art to be a narrative that resonates with the viewer’s soul, a visual journey that transcends the boundaries of observation. More than just aesthetics, I wish for people to feel a connection with the stories embedded in my work. Whether it’s the historical echoes of the Royal Poinciana or the celebration of resilience in ‘Harmony of Adaptation,’ I want viewers to pause, reflect, and find a piece of their own story within the layers of color and narrative. Ultimately, if my art prompts contemplation, evokes emotion, or sparks a conversation, I consider my purpose fulfilled.

This is really cool! What made you pick barcodes as your medium of choice? That sounds like a really interesting story

And also, is there a link between the meaning of the barcode used and the actual painting?

Your art has the power to transport me to another world, and I'd be honored to have that experience every day by adding this piece to my collection. Is it for sale?
