Establish good behaviors early! Letting bad habits start because they're funny or cute early on makes it confusing and hard to train them later. Walking is important, even if you have a fenced yard. Beyond exercise (which they need more of than a lot of people realize), it's mentally stimulating and helps them establish territory and routines. Love them with all your heart. They will love you more purely and unconditionally than anyone, and they deserve all the kindness and care we could ever give them and more.
