It's beautiful how he met someone who could love him, his cat, and his lifestyle. Sometimes one meets the right person while going off the beaten path because fewer people go there. It's not the only criteria - but it certainly eliminates those who might feign interest out of a desire to be liked. One of my colleagues met his long-time girlfriend while road biking in the rain. He thought "She likes biking enough to do it in the rain." She thought the same of him.
