My foray into photography began from the wildlife perspective. I would stalk birds and wait patiently for them to appear. Most of the time, I would wait for hours and on a couple of occasions, days even. If the bird shows up, the camera trigger is squeezed hard with adrenaline and excitement. I love wildlife and nature and sincerely believe in the preservation of the natural world by ‘shooting’ through a camera.

More About Me

In addition to nature photography, I play football, tennis, badminton and love scuba diving. I like a good coffee (Flat White please…) to start my day. My wife and I are proud parents to Akuna, our labrador retriever and Lapis, our Sharpei X. Akuna, in Jagera language, stands for “To Follow”. This was a name given to him during his time as a therapy dog at the school I used to teach. These days, he chills at home, enjoying his walks and playing with Lapis. As for Lapis, she entered our lives in December 2021. We were looking to adopt another dog into our family and after meeting a few others, we decided on Lapis. Her name stands for “layers” in Malay which refers to a type of cake that’s commonly found in Singapore and Malaysia. So if you are ever travelling to those areas, be sure to ask for Lapis cake to give it a try!

Journey as a Photographer

I embarked on my professional photography services in 2012 in Singapore. My wife and I moved to Australia in 2016, following which I formally initiated Shooting Spree Photography. I was a member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers (AIPP) up till they ceased operations in 2021. In 2017 and 2018, was awarded the Northern Territory Emerging Photographer of the Year as well as the Northern Territory Documentary Photographer of the Year in 2019. We relocated to Brisbane in January 2020 following which, Beyond Human Pet Photography was born. In 2021, I won Top 30 for the ‘Animal’ category in the prestigious Mono Awards.

My style

I love both indoor and outdoor photography. I believe both styles present a very different perspective of our beloved animals. Studio lighting brings out detail and personality of animals that isn’t easily seen under normal lighting conditions. It helps draw the viewers eyes to the animal and feel an immediate connection.

Outdoor photography is fantastic to showcase our animals in our beautiful, native, Australian backyard. The gorgeous landscapes allow freedom of movement and a choice of backdrops that stretch the creative potential of photos.
