Yes, for sure. I knew (through my mom) a "born again Christian" woman and she was the most controlling hypocrite I've ever met. She used her religion in a "Do as God says, [but that doesn't apply to me, so Shhh]) type of way. She tried to control anyone who came into her orbit, including me, when she barged into our lives by way of being a "distant neighbor." She didn't hesitate to make herself known and to establish that everythng was "her way, or hit the highway." She once told me to my face that "She knew I wasn't a Christian" because I was a Catholic. So was my mom, but that didn't apply to her in this woman's distorted view. I was the devil, corrupting my poor, innocent mother, and had to be "gotten rid of." It took nearly 40 years, and this woman evicting me from a property she owned and forcing me and my 15 year old daughter into a shelter, for my mom to "see the light." She also took my mom's pain pills away from her and used them to control my mom. That was one step too far.

This is what happened to me when my daughter's bunny (who I was taking care of) got into my room (where he never goes) and started running under the edge of the comforter on the floor. My cat was freaking out, and I was just about ready to run wildly down to the apartment manager's office to report a rat in my bedroom, when I heard the thumping of big feet and saw said feet beating it out of the room, lol.

That is the most immature, ridiculous, silly "man reaction" I've heard in a long while. I can't believe you are still with this puffy bag of hot air. I know most men need their partner to agree with them over fifty percent of the time,but poor sportsmanship, like that of a ten yr old? (Most of whom have been taught to behave better by then), nuh uh. My last straw with my daughter's father (we never married)was about 13 yrs ago, when we were watching a "creature feature" on cable that he picked. It was called 'Ice Spiders'. The graphics were not good and I innocently mentioned this, not knowing how dear to his heart ice spiders apparently were.He barely looked at me and raised his voice, saying 'Why do you have to argue about EVERYTHING?!'I had spent my entire childhood watching my mom agree with and placate my dad,and tried to do the same,so I felt harshly judged. I broke it off soon after. That wasn't the only problem,but it was indicative of the entire relationship. Dump this He-man.

"Guests" like this are intolerable. They think they can come into your house and then "run it". I was the same way as this little girl (emphasis on 'little') when I was 2 to 6 yrs old, and guests and said 'guest's' children would create dissension just because they wanted to see how much "bad child shaming" it would take to make my mom haul me off to my room for the 'You are acting like a spoiled brat, none of the other kids act like this, everyone thinks you are terrible' talk. And, of course, the final nail in the coffin the 'I'm embarrassed to call you mine' talk. I was two to five yrs old! Guests like that are just intolerable. They should be "bad guesr" shamed! And FYI, I'm on the autism spectrum, too, but I just found this out last year, and I.m 57 yrs old. I still bear emotional scars from all the years of my mom telling me I was terrible, and that most people must hate me, or dislike me the way she did. Ironically, everyone loved her and thought she was this good, sweet lady, and she was, until it came to me and my social "differences", which she thought were something I could control, or 'relearn", but just didn't want to try. And believe me, I did try., eventually matriculating into normal society, but still at a great cost to my mental well-being. Then, to not have her see that change and still telli me these things when I became an adult, just damaged me more. This little girl is lucky to have found these foster, hopefully soon to be adoptive, parents.

Thank you for replying and sharing. And I do totally understand your words. It seems like everytime I start to come upon a new decade in my age, I always look back and say these things to myself. "Oh, if only I'd known this or that when I turned 40." Now it's happening again as I get closer to 60. I really try to learn from my past mistakes. But it's taken so long to acknowledge my mistakes and accept myself for who I am, flaws and all, that I'm going to b heading into my 90s before I get it right, lol. But thank you. You're and angel.

I agree. Man or woman partner, if you're not the "dominant" one, the one who is wants to control your every move, decision, and all your free time. Anyone you meet who is not like that, and who you are interested in as well, the relationship never works out. Like the universe doesn't want any of us to find true happiness and true love. It never fails. Somehow, no matter how hard you try, some stupid thing or circumstance ruins it. Always.

I was working in retail at one of those "all-in-one super centers" (not Walmart), in the apparel department. Our manager, a woman, was a real hard-nose work til you drop kind of lady. So come winter, it snowed. I lived at a very high altitude compared to where the store, or anything else was, for that matter. So down below there was not even an inch of snow, but where I was there was two and a half feet. So I called in, and my manager is like 'Come on. You've got to be kidding me', Like she thought I was lying. So she said she was going to drive up to get me herself. So I'm thinking of being stuck with her all night, because she had a little compact front-wheel drive, and our neighbor had chains on and got stuck. I knew she and her car would most likely get stuck for hours, as all of the towing services were busy up on the passes. I told her this and she "huffed", and hung up on me. She never showed.

Catholic high school in the middle west (USA). Pregnant girls could not enter school to finish/continue their high school diploma. Hated that. Since all were catholic they should have taken in consideration that they might have been pregnant by the holy spirit. At least that teached me in the 90s that religion is only to control people.

(Cont'd from my comment to 'Seabeast' below.) So she got away with a lot of childish behavior, and my grandma also went along with it because there was nothing to do, as my mom would either sulk, ignore advice, or cry, so I was expected to just deal with it. Well, I had anxiety, social anxiety, and was on the autism spectrum in a time where children with these problems were either labeled as having been spoiled by their parents, or a hopeless case. So I couldn't "just deal". It screwed me up my whole life emotionally, and my relationship with my mom was not perfect, and especially with her extended family, who I could hardly stand because of their blatant favoritism towards my mom, as if she were my sister. They resented my unwillingness to give my mom a pass on her behavior, and none of it was ever resolved as they are all gone now, and my mom just passed in July of 2022. I wish it could have been different. I regret not being able to be the "sister" to my mom they expected me to be, even though it was a screwed up situation.

Exactly. I'm not perfect. I had a mom who was the baby of her large family, and also my dad's second wife after his first wife passed, so he was 30 years her senior, and treated her very much like a child. My mom was more like a sister because everyone expected me to play along and not expect her to parent me because she was "sensitive" and "high strung", as well as having had her life not turn out like she wanted, i.e. her boyfriend of ten years wouldn't commit, so she turned around and married my dad after a only ahort time of knowing him, and even though he was a reasonably good husband and father, her life with him was a far cry from what her life with her big Italian family and Italian boyfriend would have been. They were artistic, musically gifted people who lived in a city known for the quality of it's art and music scene, and she had had hopes of being a professional opera singer like her older half sister. My dad had grown up a country boy on the Oklahoma plains, in the 1920s, over 80 years ago, so you could imagine the gap in their lifestyles. (Incidentally, my mom's mom -my grandma- also married a man 30 years her senior, but my grandma was super responsible and realistic, except when it came to my mom's behavior, even though she knew my mom lacked decent parenting skills.)

To the people who said the parents might punish the OP for reporting to the police that her sister stole her car, I don't think normal parents who know the sister is screwed up because of their terrible parenting will do that. It sounds like they are reasonable people who, although they don't want their screwed up kid to go to jail, still will respect their responsible kid's decision. That deadbolt showed up on OP's door pronto after she gave her parents the ultimatum, and even though that was in her parent's hopes of getting OP not too report her sister for stealing her car, I still think that the parents are aware enough of their fault for most of the sister's terrible behavior because she is screwed up because of their lack of good parenting, so they would not want to be crappy parents who would jeopardize their relationship with OP by being mean and punishing her for a situation they know is 95% their fault.

About the misgendering: a lot of people who don't speak English as their first language have trouble with personal pronouns. I can't say the number of times I've heard people, especially of Hispanic descent, get others pronouns mixed up. Even friends who knew me well. Maybe these customers did not speak English as a first language. One time when I was working in the apparel department of a superstore (not Wal-Mart), a mom and her maybe 4 year old child walked by, and the kid asked his mom 'Mommy, was that a man or a woman?' I was devastated. I wasn't the 'gorgeous' type of woman, but not ugly or un-feminine either. I remember that day was not my best. I was tired, and a single mom of an under one year old, and some days I just didn't have the energy to get all "done-up" for work. It had been a "dress down" kind of day for me. I was still overweight with pregnancy pounds, but I always wore makeup and dressed nicely, even on bad days, so I don't know why the child was confused.

I get where this young man is coming from, but I can't count the number of times I was crying at work, before work, and after work because working in retail at a superstore (not Walmart), in the apparel department really sucks. That was 20 some years ago when it was 'come in, work 8 hours until 10pm, be back at 7am, and be nice to incredibly rude customers and difficult co-workers, and do any stupid, pointlessly inane task your manager tells you to, or else'. I do, however, agree that it would have been just too much handling school and working that type of job as well. But then again, when i had my daughter and was a single mom working 6 to 8 hour shifts on 5 hours or less sleep every night, it was just about the same thing. I feel that a change in working world conditions and expectations is long overdue. France has had a 4 day work week for a long time, and employees have certain expectations of time for personal, family and friend activities.

My daughter eats dried seaweed she buys at the store. She tried it once at someone else's house and I couldn't believe she liked it as she was only ten years old and also a junk food fanatic. That started her eating only healthy foods. Now, 12 years later, she only buys organic. And before she moved out with her boyfriend, she would come home with some very, in my opinion, strange food. There is still a package of poached lotus slices in the fridge, and a cupboard full of things with names like dan dan noodles, spirulina powder you add to any drink, tuna infusions (what the heck??), kelp jerky, eggplant wraps, poached ginkgo nuts. I could go on and on, especially with vegetables, but I will be kind and stop now, lol

So true. I had never seen or tasted chicken wings from any restaurant/deli or frozen type. When my daughter brought some home for me to try, I didn't really like them. I kept thinking it was just a mistake, that the bone must have fallen out during the cooking process. That was around 12 yrs ago. It just dawned on me very recently that no, this is the really the way they are served at restaurants, etc. My first thought was why, for the love of everything, would someone market a chicken nugget pretending to be a wing. I never thought that possibly, an adult would be embarrassed to admit they liked chicken nuggets. I would feel silly ordering expensive "chicken wings" when nuggets are less expensive. And who is so ridiculously paranoid when eating out in a group that they would be worried everyone would point and laugh at them for ordering chicken nuggets? I can't believe people who are hired to market restaurant foods are that clever that they thought of this angle.

1. Looking like you're talking to yourself. The in past you've been taken away to the crazy hospital. These days you're most likely on your phone so you can feel free to talk to yourself all you want and just blame it on that, lol. 2. Being an actual crazy person. It used to be if you were crazy they'd give you tin foil to play with and cart you off to a mental hospital because you shouldn't be allowed in regular society. Now you can say things like believing the earth is flat. Or that school shootings where children have died and it can be proven are just 'false flags' and never happened. Or that the government is a conspiracy of snake people from another planet. And instead of a tin foil hat, you get elected to the house of representatives or a radio show making millions of dollars.

I'm autistic. Often would just ask for clarification and an explanation since "because" is not a reason. I got told I was argumentative and disobedient. Got yelled at a lot. Please, kids do not understand. It can help your child so much. I often got snapped at for having meltdowns because I felt forgotten or overwhelmed. We foster 6 kids, 3 of whom are toddlers. When the littlest was just over 2, we had had a long day running errands and it was quickly approaching nap time. He was fussy and cranky and completely inconsolable. He was 2, tired, hangry, and didn't have the words that adults do to explain how he was feeling. Several times we passed an older lady with her 2 daughters and 3 grandkids. Finally it got to be too much so I just sat down on the floor and held him while I rocked and rubbed his back. The older lady was going past the end of the aisle on her scooter and stopped and backed up just to tell me that I was doing a great job. She said it was refreshing to see a young mom not screaming at, ignoring, punishing or threatening punishment, or even trying to bribe the child ito behaving well when a tiny one was melting down. It's sad that this was something that even needed to be said. As adults we need to take a step back and realize that our children are all pieces of our collective future...

Your kid isn’t giving you a hard time. THEY are having a hard time. stone_fox_in_mud added: Absolutely. And so much so for any child with a disability. [deleted] added: I wish more people would understand this, when their children are having a tantrum. So maby people write it off as bad behaviour. Where in reality it is your child having an overwhelming amount of emotions and feelings and no clue as to how to deal with them. A parent would do their child's emotional development a huge favour by trying to understand this. The book "The Science of Parenting" explains this from a neurological and attachment psychological point of view - with many great sources.

I've never had a problem with cryptozoology. I think it's quite fun and eagerly await proof of these creatures. Heck they found the hobbit on island of flores which shows that paleological species of humans survived into the stone age at least, so the idea that there may be cavemen walkign around somewhere in forests, to this day, seems ok to me.

Intelligence is a very poorly-defined thing. It is measured using IQ which asks questions and designs etc., which require background knowledge of western and scientific culture.
