As someone with severe dog allergy despite loving them so very much, this would be a nightmare. If a service dog comes into a shop, I can leave. If a service dog comes into a doctor office, I can leave. I cannot leave an airplane. A REAL service dog causes a difficult situation for me but that's unavoidable as their need is equal to my own. Someone wanting to travel with a pet should not override my medical need for them to be in the special live animal baggage area.

I never thought about this, but my one cousin who never ran in HS or anything took up running and even trained for marathons while married to her first husband (we all hated him and he was a terrible father). I don't think she did any more marathons after the separation and I know she gave up running altogether with the second husband (great guy and great father to his own son and hers as well).

Maybe I'm looking at it from my own frugal perspective, but concert tickets can be an expensive luxury, like more than I'd spend on the average birthday gift for the actual birthday person. It wouldn't even occur to me to lay out that kind of money for a "not the birthday" person. I would however have mentioned the plan to the wife previously so she had a chance to buy her own ticket or explain why I wanted it to be a just nuclear blood family event. Heck, I don't go out to birthday meal celebrations for my husband hosted by my ILs without at least offering to pay for me and the kids. They never make me pay but it's kind of rude if I expected to be treated just because I had a delusion that my hubby and I became a single unit after marriage. We're a team, but not a single entity. Her ILs should have given a heads up before, but she acted like a petulant child with her reaction.

OP was TAH for the comment, sure, but justifiably so. It was specifically harsh. But her assholery pales in comparison to the sister. Sometimes you need to be an AH back to them. And ruining a dress before it can even be used once, and causing a second dress to be necessary, is the exact opposite of being environmentally friendly. Pinterest diy nonsense does make sense tough. Saving the cost of 2 plates at the wedding is a start to re-compensation.

I have a huge issue with people saying the BF had a right to thinking his conversations IN FRONT OF HER should be considered private conversations. No. Just no. My ILs don't understand English but I never have a conversation in front of them with hubby in English if it's not something I would say in front of them in their native language. They are both TAH for their own offenses but he is by far a bigger gaping AH for cheating.

I was the kid typically not invited (poor kid in a rich school district, so different reasons I know). If it was true that "most of the girls" and not ALL of the other girls were invited, then she was not actually singled out. But being invited to a party you are not actually wanted at creates such a worse situation and resulting feelings than not being invited in the first place. Sadly, the mom just created more problems for the new girl as now she might be ostracized and miss out on any potential future friendships with these girls because "she got mommy involved and almost ruined our party". As a mom, I insist on just a handful or the entire class for my own kids and their activities outside of school.

I think most of are able, over time, to forgive our parents for a heck of a lot (excluding out and out abuse). You grow to understand that they were doing the best they could, even if they were flawed. BUT, parents who forever crow about what a great frigging job they did, who never have the humility to admit they maybe did some things wrong, make this impossible. It's not all Boomers who are like that, but it seems to be too routine for their generation.

I'm pretty sure it was more about the lying at that point. That said, I do think she probably cared a little, and was trying to convince herself. Tbh, im not a material person but Id probably have the same reaction. Do I actually care if some expensive thing is fake or not? No. But if someone gave me a fake, and then lied about it being real. I would feel hurt about the lie and dissapointed in the item.

I know someone whose mom put him in a playpen and just let him scream all day without doing anything to try to soothe him. Poor baby ended up having hernia surgery from all the screaming. As annoying as screaming can be, ignoring it isn’t the right thing to do. (I don’t *think*; I never had kids so obviously haven’t the first clue how to care for them, but allowing them to scream themselves into a hernia strikes me as wrong.)

OP should not allow herself to be forced out of her own home. MIL allows dog to get upstairs while OP is still in a wheelchair? Quick call to animal control to have a dog removed from a space it has no permission to be in and OP can't safely remove the dog. It's a better option for the doggo than OP just opening the front door and proclaiming, "Oh, I thought we weren't restricting anywhere doggo was allowed to go?"

Sounds like the Mom has a medical/mental problem. I initially thought perhaps post-partum depression (it can go on for years), but if she was a reckless/distracted driver before having a baby, then perhaps it's a neurodiversity issue. This is not an exhaustion situation as she was still up after midnight without a problem. This is a medical problem that needs to be investigated before someone gets hurt.

I was forced/guilted into allowing my mother to have a memorial table and candle lighting ceremony at my wedding for my deceased brother, the golden child that would have kept living in our hometown near her forever. And he was an adult with a child of his own when he passed. The world has to stop revolving a few times a year especially on his birthday and his death-iversary which happens to be the day before my oldest son's birthday and 2 days before youngest son's. 12 years now of not even being able to focus on the joy of my sons without comments about "If your brother was still alive..." My very first college roommate got very drunk in the first month and had to be carried to our room by her guy friends who took forever to convince to just get the heck out. In the middle of the night she got out of bed, walked a few laps around the room, and squatted near her bed and christened the carpet with urine. Never bothered cleaning it up the next day. I got reassigned shortly after to escape that trainwreck.
