It was a commission, he was a navy veteran from Oregon. As the painting came together, he shared a bit of his story with me. This ended up being one of the most emotionally charged pieces I've ever done, and I was so worried about how he would feel about it... He now has it displayed in his barbershop!

I have a dear friend who is able to maintain her cool even in a figurative house fire. After hearing of her trauma and inner struggles, I couldn't help but be inspired by her elegance and composure. She may never know this was inspired by her, but when she saw it at one of my shows, she bought a print and told me "I just really love this." .

Like any piece of art, it's simply not meant to resonate with everyone. To try and encompass "deeper meaning" across a general spectrum would mean stepping into politics and social issues. For me to create art that resonates with you, I'd have to know you personally or hear your story. If the deeper meaning behind my work doesn't resonate with you, it is not because of the "pubescent" (mothers dealing with loss of a child or a soldier living with PTSD after war) nature of the content. It's simply not meant for you. Thank you and havea great day! ;).

This speaks on many levels to me. Visual serenity with lingering of rage shrouded within.

Major Houlihan, the only thing shallow in in the blog post is your inability to offer critique without sounding overly selfish and cocky. Her artwork has sold for thousands, and been displayed in shows across the state, but even after working with mentors, and enduring the passion of art for years upon years, she has not gotten lost into the cliche oversaturated side of the industry. She stays true to herself, and there is no deeper means of expression, then being true to ones self.

How about she continues doing exactly how she chooses, art is to be enjoyed in such a way. If you don't agree then don't look at them. Please don't try and speak for everyone on the soul of a sensitive pubescent person, in those years I learned the most to appreciate this type of art. These are far from gruesome to me. More like a truth behind so much we do not see but what resonates beneath surfaces. This work encapsulates much of that side for me. I love it, whether or not someone does enjoy this, she's doing what's right as an artist to create her own, beyond expectation of others.

I love how this art speaks to the inner regions usually unseen or noticed. Really makes someone think in a deeper manner as to what someone may be going through now or things of the past that travel along with them. Very well executed work!
