A good place to start might be therapy and/or studying psychology. My psych classes have been very helpful for personal growth. I'd suggest CBT techniques and maybe humanistic psychology :)

Many reasons why I got self confidence and acceptance so early. One of them was hearing about older people who were like "I got to my middle ages and stopped caring" and was like "yknow what I'm just gonna try and skip to that mindset now". It's hard work but it's quite worth it.

It's crazy how religion can effect people in so many ways. I was lucky to grow up with a very good religious experience mainly led by my dad who is an AMAZING person. Religion has really helped me live a happy life that I feel I'm getting the most out of and the way I have been taught it's been an amazing support for growth in all areas. Lately I have been thinking about how I haven't really made much effort to look into other religions to see if there are any I believe in more so if any of you want to share your beliefs (whatever they are) with me I'd be grateful. I don't expect I'll switch religions but I do want to make my decision knowing the options. Sorry to bother people :)

I'm really sorry religion made you feel that way. For me it's been pretty much the opposite. I got into a really bad spot when I was a young teen and getting more into religion really helped me (especially atonement related stuff, and shame versus guilt). I learned I should never feel bad for being imperfect, focusing on improvement is most important, God doesn't hate or feel upset at me no matter what I do. Being "good enough" isn't what matters, it's improving and learning cuz to me thats the whole point in life. Thats just my experience tho. Sorry for rambling :P

Depends on how you read it. I've been studying the old testament in seminary and my teachers have taken a lot of effort to look at the historical context of the translations, words, cultures, etc and it's been great (also taking into account it's one messed up document game of telephone style). Without that stuff though the bible can be very strange. However, I do not consider the bible to be front and center to my spiritual beliefs.

Same. If you go to the gospel library app it does say quite explicitly that being gay isn't a sin. Sadly that stuff has been more newer in terms of emphasis. Frankly confused about the burning in hell part as thats REALLY not in line with church doctrine.

I'm part of that church and idk if maybe it was different when you were apart of it but I've never been taught that gay people are a sin. Quite the opposite. I've been taught that there is nothing inherently wrong or sinful with being gay. It would seem peoples experiences with the church really does depend on your community.

Yeah I've never liked that kind of worship personally for myself. In my religious education (lol i'm starting to sound like the blonde girl from the magic school bus) God is supposed to have more of a parental role. One interesting thing is the encouragement of using "thou" in prayers. A lot of people think it's supposed to be out of respect and stuff but thou used to be the informal more causal counterpart to "you" in the English language. Since I think that's a bit outdated as to defeat the purpose I don't really use and (grammatically it doesn't really come up anyway) but I do like the reasoning.

That sex, sexuality, drinking/drugs/partying, politics, money, spirituality are awkward things to discuss. I want my future kids to know facts and that if they are ever in trouble, I am a safe place for them. We don't have to talk about it if they don't want to, they'll be taught how to be safe, but they should also know that these subjects are a part of life and should not cause shame.

I had a similar situation occur with an employer. It ended differently, however. Backstory: When I was in my early 20s, I was in an abusive marriage and finally left in 2015 after securing a new position at a dental office as a dental assistant. My boss approached me after a few months of employment, as he had noticed that I had lost a lot of weight and sat in my car during the lunch hour. I told him that I couldn’t afford mandated health insurance (at the time, it was ~$300 USD a month for the cheapest marketplace insurance I could find) AND groceries on my salary. He didn’t own the practice at the time, but he still spoke to the owner and got me enough of a raise to cover my health insurance, and he brought me meals from his own home to eat for dinner weekly (I’m pretty sure his wife was mixing in vegetables to make sure I was eating well, too). If I ever worked after 5 PM, I was always paid well and he’d buy food or bring Oreos for me to take home. He also convinced me to go back to school for my Bachelor’s degree and wrote me a wonderful letter of recommendation for my program. It’s been years but it was probably one of the only times any employer has treated me like a human being, especially in that industry.

I actually have a decent-ish experience with this. I was working at Aeropostale back in college and I had lost a lot of weight and my boss asked me about it. I had been working there for 3 years and she was my new store manager for maybe 6 months. Anyways she mentioned that my clothes looked big and that company policy was our clothes had to be in style and well fitting. She asked if I was eating okay and I told her I was only able to afford to eat once a day and the scheduling manager only scheduled me 10 hours a week. She asked me a few more questions about availability and what not. She doubled my working hours and later after the new year she gave me a 30 cent raise, I think minimum wage was $7.35 or something like that at the time. I was making a bit more but that put me at $8 an hour. She scheduled me for open before class and she would bring me sack lunches to make sure I had something to eat and let me eat while on the clock. Makhaila if you ever see this, thank you.
