@Lizzy Busch It's not only about bonding but also about mating and breeding. I dont think that you can imagine a sexually frustratd bird. For example, a Cockatoo will start to scream all day, attack you and others, then pluck its own feathers because - well, because you are not a cockatoo. Not a songbird, but a strong example of what I mean.

Ah yes, I have had the same problem with my finch ladies. Luckily my avian vet acted very fast and giving them birdy pellets and putting them right next to the shower (steam helps relax them) had them passing the egg. So sorry for you, it must have been very severe if you had to opt for surgery.

they arethe cutest. I have zebra finches. In October I built an aviary for them. At first I had only 5 (Eyes, Shy2, Quiet, Gugui and Summer). I bought 3 females (Restless, Twin punky and twin solo). Eyes and Restless had 4 baby birds (Star,Angel, Cloud and Mini) and then Quiqui and Twin Punky had 3 more (Maverick, Wonder and Middle)and again Quiqui choose the other Twin, (Twin solo)and had three more (Naughty, Rebel and Devil). I have 18!!! I love them so much
