It concerns me that people say YTA as you should have talked to her - after you say you talked to her. Sometimes people have no idea and think "talking" will solve everything. No, it doesn't. Sometimes you have to "do something" about a problem after talking about it. You are NTA. You acted to solve a repeated situation at that time. I agree though that you may have to reavaluate her as a friend or at least engineer the situations you are in with her so that maybe no bill is involved.

A compromise would be to give the child a middle name of a month because I'd also say we have a tradition in our family of not naming kids after months, so which tradition should have preference? But the middle name is fair game if you want.

Ask the family if you'd bought tickets for her without her confirming to go or not and she decided then not to go, would she have reimbursed you for them? I'd say no and she's kick up a fuss about it. Tell them that's the answer then, - no confirmation, no tickets.

Why all these demanding money or you're not coming stories? Whatever happened to the couple or parents pay within their budget and you buy a present. That's it. All the demands from the couple for payments for this and that, hen and stag nights, dresses, hair do's, flying away for some reason as part of the lead up to the wedding and it costing an arm and a leg, honeymoons, the list is endless. What is the mind-set of people who make demands on their friends to pay endlessly. They soon wouldn't be a friend of mine.

Before putting them in the water, tap the larger end gently with the back of the teaspoon until you hear a "crack" - which isn't the shell breaking but the membrane detaching. Then boil as normal, plunge into cold water and peel under a slightly running tap from the large end first. Youtube has a number of videos illustrating the technique.
