My lunch ladies won the Powerball when I was in 9th grade. Each took home 1.1 million dollars. Each week, they each put in a quarter and bought Powerball tickers and one week they won. There were news teams there for days doing interviews. It was cool that most of the lunch ladies stayed working there. The older ones retired, but almost all of them continued to work. It was a really big deal for a long time.Tashdacat reply
So this happened a couple years before I went there, but this was the talk of my high school for like half a decade and half the town knew folks involved so it just became town lore. There was a special needs kid who was loved by our school and our community. He was always smiling and happy, and while only ever really talkative when it was about his own interests you couldn't help but like the guy and get along with him. Even bullies were kind to the kid, and while some people avoided him no one was ever rude or dismissive towards him. Just a genuinely good kid who was liked by all cause you couldn't help but like him. He got beaten up by a bully who came to our school from the really f****d up last chancer school a few suburbs over. Word got out when someone saw him in the infirmary bruised to the nines and crying. Dumbass bully took credit but really didn't need to since there were witnesses and word got around pretty quickly. A dozen seniors cornered him after school when the bully was walking home and took turns beating the s**t out of them, apparently they almost killed him. Never saw him again after that so I've no idea what happened, I just know he got hospitalised for ages. No one was willing to rat them out, and the teachers and overworked cops didn't really seem too fussed in finding out who got rid of the bully. The friendly kid came back a few weeks later all healed up and everything continued as normal.SundayScoop reply
My sister is the bride of all brides...nothing fazed her. The day before her wedding she went to pick up her dress where it was being hemmed and the tailor ruined it. It was unwearable and she had to grab an off the rack dress that mostly fit her. Then during the pictures my 3 month old son had diarrhea all down my bridesmaids dress, down my stockings and into my shoes. It was 10 minutes before the ceremony. We had to wash out and iron dry the dress, I had planned to nurse the baby before the ceremony but he was whisked off to be changed so I basically milked myself into the sink while the other bridesmaids were cleaning my shoes and the priest was making an announcement about the delay and my poor sister was just waiting to see what else would happen. Then during the wedding my milk came in and stained the front of my dress so I held my flowers across my chest for the whole ceremony. It was a total disaster and yet my sister was so serene and smiling and laughing about it. Now we have great stories and I totally admire her for being the complete opposite of a bridezilla. My great aunt and uncle were married for several years, but it turned out my uncle had a huge drinking and gambling problem. They got divorced for 20 years. During that time he cleaned up his act, and they got back together when they were in their 50s. They are in their 80s now and still going strongHey Pandas, What Is One Thing You Like But Everyone Else Seems To Hate?
Dunno if I'll get downvoted, but here goes. Frankly, I enjoy pineapple on pizza. On Hawaiian pizza, the sweetness of the pineapple contrasts very well with the saltiness of the ham. I can understand why people dislike it, or may find it off-putting, but I've grown to enjoy it.Show All 16 Upvotes
