Gluten-Free Art Museum Lets You Enjoy Famous Artworks Without Gluten

In one of the weirdest Internet art projects we’ve ever seen, French graphic artist Arthur Coulet has created a Tumblr called the Gluten-Free Art Museum that removes everything containing gluten from famous classical paintings. Some of the changes made to these famous paintings are subtle, while others are huge, but they all share one common vision – a gluten-free world.

Gluten is a protein that forms when proteins in wheat and other grains are mixed with water while being processed. Most of us are fine with it. Celiac disease, however, makes gluten react with and damage the small intestines. Though only about 1% of the population has gluten, there has been a recent movement suggesting that gluten causes many more issues and that avoiding it can help treat or even cure a wide range of diseases. Though most of these people don’t actually need to avoid gluten, the growing popularity of gluten-free food has caused an explosion in food choices for those actually affected by Celiac disease.

Scroll down below and check these safe-to-eat classical artworks for yourself!

There is a beast with heart of cold stone that dashes like lightning, shreds flesh from bone. // Bewitched by this beast, I fell to my knees. My mouth babbled madness and mumbled soft pleas. // I stared down the ravenous, gnashing dark maw of a cute cuddly kitten with yarn in its paw

Yeah, looks more like a critique to the "gluten free" movement. The modified pictures look like people were so poor they had nothing to eat....

This is a statement on how far people have taken this gluten fad. Without the plants that contain gluten humans may have never evolved to the point we are at now. A point where a true few have an actual condition and others are just riding a fad. I think it's insulting to those who actually have an adverse reaction to gluten.

Haha. As someone that suffers from gluten intolerance, I found these hilarious.

With gluten free breads and pasta available most of these changes are unnecessary.

Daria, the gluten-free movement should be critiqued. Gluten is an inadvisable foodstuff for those with a condition called Coeliac Disease, also known as non-tropical Sprue. Avoiding gluten for any other reason has absolutely no medical foundation whatsoever. And yes, dieticians and physicians do know enough about nutrition to know that this is absolutely true.

I have Celiac and I thought this was hilarious and dumb. That's the point - it's all in good fun! No one's saying everyone should be gluten free. And the write up of what gluten is was wrong, but who cares - it's funny!

In the Walt Disney one of Lady and the Tramp, they forgot to take out the bread sticks in the jar. (Grissini) Italian restaurants always used to have the crunchy bread sticks!
