A 100-Year-Old Church Transformed Into A Skate Park Painted With Colorful Graffiti
A historic church in the Spanish city of llanera was transformed into a skate-park earlier this year by La Iglesia Skate; titled Kaos Temple, it has now undergone a second, more colorful transformation at the hands of street-artist Okuda San Miguel.
In collaboration with Red Bull, Okuda filled the church with bright, isometric, paintings. Verkami describes some of the work: “His iconic artistic piece Kaos Star represents a colorful and isometric rose of the winds that tries to tell us that it does not matter were you are, or what you are doing, what matters are your own goals.”

My nefew is a skater and he would love to see this place in person.
Load More Replies...This turned out very nice. I'm just curious what happened to the century old church treasure, like, you know, the statues we see at the altair. Just a thought.
When the clergy abandon a church they take everything valuable away, leaving the building empty
Load More Replies...Fantastic work, much better this than letting the building crumble into pieces!BTW, abandoned churches get deconsecrated by the clergy...
Check out the Church of 8 Wheels in San Francisco. It's an old church converted into a roller disco. http://churchof8wheels.com
Tha art is stunning...however, I cannot accept that a church be transformed to a play ground :/
Exactly. We actually learned today in my religious bible school that going to church means nothing. You may be an unsaved person going to church and some people will believe you are saved just by doing that. While a place of worship is appreciated by God, there is no disrespect to him if construction was made on an old abandoned church in the purpose of providing people a place to have fun. This was not done against Christ and the purpose of reconstruction was not done to smear His name. Calm yourself.
Load More Replies...I don't mind to rearrange old churches' spaces (and those graphitti are really awesome), but some places need to be respected and giving couches in chancel is a kind of profanation for me =/
I do think this is cool, but a place of worship turned into a playground? I just think that's a little irreverent
This is absolutely fantastic!!! I have ridden halfpipes back in the day and know what an exhilarating experience it is!!! I also know how churches make great places to skate, however I don't skateboard, I'm a quad roller skater. I took a 125 year old church in San Francisco and created the Church of 8 Wheels!!! Check it out at http://www.churchof8wheels.com
I read a couple of the articles and I think the church was donated. I think it's wonderful to entrust a space so precious to our children :)
Finally! a church being used to benefit kids, rather than indoctrinate them
Great!! All religious institutions should be turned into stuff like this! <3
People, the church was not being used. No one broke down the doors of a working church to do this.
I am talking about emotional connection with certain places. A house for me is not just a house, it's a whole life within. Thanks.
People will not lose faith without the walls, but will lose a memory they cherish. That's all :)
A building holds memories, passions, anf beliefs of its inhabitatnts.
So clergy abandoned and deconsacreted this nice church because they didn't needed it anymore, leaving it to crumble, but skaters saved it!!
at first i thought how they can destroy a 100 year old church then i read it was in spain and i said ooh then is ok they have hundreds of churches.
churches have nothing to do with spirituality.
Load More Replies...Churches are a sacred place, there are other buildings that could have been transformed. The idea was good as the result, but why the church?
I think God smiles at the "children" in His new "playground". ^_-
Load More Replies...Then why not keep the beauty? If left alone, the beautiful architecture and design would've rotted away and crumbled to ruins. The better option was to preserve it as it was repurposed
Load More Replies...You are so right Miroslav...religion and belief are not material...however, a building, whatever it is, is not just a building.
A church IS just a building. A building with a religious purpose. God appreciates a place of worship but going to church does not mean you are Christian or whatever religion said church represents.
Load More Replies...Even though I believe that churches are sacred, I also believe that God would want us to have fun
