Hi, I’m Emily and I own a small business where I make tiny hand-crafted ceramic necklace charms to resemble people's beloved pets!

It’s really a win-win for me as I’ve always loved ceramics and now I get to see all these cute pet photos and interact with other animal lovers!

These personalized, custom pieces are hand-sculpted out of earthenware clay, then fired to bisque. After firing, I use underglaze to add the colors and patterns and then cover it in a glossy transparent glaze, and fire again. Sometimes I also add some real 22k gold details to make the piece extra special!

I think they make a beautiful gift for any animal lover, or can be the perfect way to memorialize a beloved pet. I get my customers to send me photos of their fur babies and I try my best to replicate them into their miniature ceramic forms.

Sometimes glaze can be a little tricky to get right as it can be quite unpredictable, but I love working with my customers to make sure each one loves their one-of-a-kind charm!

I hope you enjoy looking at some of my creations and comparing them to real-life pets!

Choosing ceramic as my medium to create these pet charms was a deliberate decision rooted in the “specialness” I attribute to ceramics. The tactile nature and durability of ceramics are ideal for crafting lasting mementos that are unique and aesthetically pleasing. I have always thoroughly enjoyed the process of ceramics. The hands-on nature of the process, from sculpting the clay to mixing the right color glazes, allows me to be able to capture all the tiny details and unique traits of each individual pet.

One memorable order I received was from a customer asking if I could make a three-legged cat in memory of their beloved tripod kitty who had recently passed away. I of course said yes, and was incredibly touched that they had entrusted me with the task of capturing their little companion’s spirit. I always put a lot of pressure on myself to capture all the tiny details of each individual pet. These kinds of projects always make me reflect on how pets are so cherished, and really become part of the family, and how the loss of a pet can be a deeply emotional experience that many people can empathize with. The fact that I can play a small role in providing some comfort in grief and loss makes me so proud of the meaningful impact my tiny charms can have.

Ensuring each charm accurately represents a customer’s pet can be a meticulous task! When customers first approach me, I will get them to send me reference photos of their pets. Sometimes they will also send a blurb about their pet’s personality, which is also helpful in truly capturing their essence. Then I will carefully mold the pet’s distinctive features, including expression, fur textures, and physical quirks (e.g... A snaggle tooth!). Then I use a mixture of glazes to create the pet’s specific colouring and markings. Throughout the process, I work closely with the customer and send updated photos to ensure they can provide feedback, and make any adjustments or refinements. This collaboration guarantees that the final charm truly captures the essence of their pet.

One of my key ambitions moving forward will be to diversify the range of pets I make charms of. I am hoping to make listings to include horses, guinea pigs, chickens, goats and more! I have also considered the idea of incorporating a pet’s ashes into the clay I use to sculpt them out of.

Such amazing talent. I'm going to get one of my cat, Moishe. This is the perfect memorial.
