What do TV personality Kim Kardashian, fashion designer Tan France, and models Chrissy Teigen and Andreja Pejic have in common? Recently, these famous people surprised their followers by posting pictures with freaky body modifications. And they all did it for the same reason.

Recent Instagram fashion trends, like squiggly lips or feather brows, might give you an impression that the future of beauty is wild and unpredictable. But if you could change your body image as easily as you change your clothes, would you? That’s precisely the question that A. Human, an experimental immersive theatrical experience, is asking, and these celebrities are showcasing examples of what the visitors will see.

A. Human, conceived by Simon Huck, is opening at 48 Mercer Street, New York City on September 5. The interactive event uses set design, technology, prosthetics, special effects makeup, live actors and more to blur the gap between reality and fantasy while asking questions about self-expression.

“We didn’t want to root any of our body mods on the idea of existing insecurities or discomforts,” Simon Huck told VOGUE. “A. Human is about the freedom to explore this world and live in this world in any way you choose.”

This futuristic take on the world looks worthy of a sci-fi movie. The visitors will be offered to swap their shoes for a conch-shell-like permanent heel or have new DNA-mirrored hearts created and implanted for them. And while people on the internet can’t decide if these mods and SFX makeup looks are creepy or cool, Huck reminds us of the positive nature of the event. “When you think of the future, you think dark, dystopian—there are all these images that come to mind. I didn’t want to create a utopian world, but I definitely wanted to create a world that was optimistic or, at the bare minimum, neutral,” he said. Scroll down to check out the body outfits and tell us what you think about them in the comments.

I think that the hate and the refuses coming from some people are coming from the believe that despite that all of this may be just a publicity for something .. that there is actually other's that are willing to do so ( i mean implant ) if possible , not because they need it or something , but really just to get more intention . And that , for some ,me included , is f*****g bizzard .

To be fair I'm sure there are a lot of people who would do this for real....and so what? It's their money, their time, and some of it is just a smidge cool. What I don't get is why people get hysterical about what strangers do to their bodies.

All the headlines around these say "Body Modifications!" "Going to Extremes with temporary surgery!!" Clickbait bushit! I'm a Special Makeup Effects Artist, this is just what I do every single day at work, instead of making monster or gore applications this guy is making pretty ones. Hell I made similar things in the past for shoots. They aren't really that expensive to make but do take some time and practice to get them right. I hate how the internet media is working everyone up over nothing.

This reminds me of the "Uglies" series by Scott Westerfeld, where people had become dependent on brain and body modifications. Although I get that their intent is to challenge convention, I am not as optimistic about bod-mod as the creators seem to be, and find this really creepy, regardless of celebrity involvement.

My issue with it is that the headline says Body Modifications, implying that it's surgical. It's not, it's skin colored rubber glued on with medical adhesive that comes off with Alcohol. I literally do this every day at work. But instead of a Klingon, a Zombie,or a vampire it's jewelry. And the Kim one costs around $75 in materials, without the lights, so it's not even that expensive.

Even if it was real... so f****n what? People wear X style clothes, accessories, makeup, hairdos already to express themselves and - YES - get attention. Piercings and tattoos are very common now, and other bodymods already exist, so what's the big deal? Don't like the look of them? Don't get one, or don't look at them! You not liking them is your problem, so you deal with it. Personally I find them pretty cool (minus the one with holes.. "trypophobia" triggered *shudder*). They can do whatever they want to themselves, but we instinctively feel good when looking at natural bodies. Those look sick, often gross, usually just show lack of self acceptation.
