Cartoonist Draws Himself In 100 Different Cartoon Styles, And The Result Is Unbelievably Spot On
Some cartoons have such iconic styles, a distinct ‘feel’ about them, that they are instantly recognizable. Cartoonist Kevin McShane decided to pay tribute to some of most-loved and famous cartoons by mimicking their style to draw himself in 100 self-portraits.
We are not sure what the kids are up to these days, but cartoons used to be almost like a religion. Since they were only aired on TV, you sometimes had to skip class to watch them or wake up early on Saturdays and Sundays to catch all of the favorite ones. Guessing from this artist's awesome recreations of cartoon styles, he was probably one of these kids.
The accuracy of Kevin’s drawings is incredible, capturing the very soul of each cartoon in just one simple self-portrait. The research process must’ve been fun! “Kevin, it’s 2 am. Why are you on the couch eating Cheetos and watching re-runs of Snorks?”
“Research!”
Scroll down to check out Kevin’s cool self-portraits in 100 cartoon art styles for yourself, you might find your favorite, too!

Load More Replies...No Tintin, no Asterix&Obelix, no Valerian, no Pogo, no Beetle Bailey, no Prince Valiant, no Steve Canyon, no Popeye...
Honestly, I think he needs to work on his anime. It’s missing that special “flair” to it. The anime pictures were okay, but personally, I feel he needs to improve on them. Otherwise it was amazing!
Great drawings but actually missed some essence in drawing anime/manga. Manga style drawings should have a bit more expressive posture even just normal standing position. Also the muscle shapes such as shoulder should be more precise and be proportioned on the other parts of the body. Though over all great work!
I find the lack of Alex Toth (Space Ghost, Herculoids, Birdman, Mightor, Super Friends, etc.) troubling.
These were so fun to scroll through looking for the styles I could recognize XD obviously there's a lot of talent here, I would love to see stuff in the OP's personal style for comparison!
All the anime ones are c**p, nothing like what he’s trying to represent. American styles spot on, anime just awful....
I can say, by far and large, this has been one of the funnest and longest posts I have been through. I know you didn't hire us, or ;me, rather, to be a critic but... I give you a 100+1. You not only honored all the glorious catonnist that have touched many of our lives but did so with your true talent. That took a lot of truth and belief. Not only did you show your appreciation for many different syles but your ability to draw them. To quote one of my all time favorite heros: "All our dreams can come true, If we have the courage to pursue them.." Please use yours. You are truly amazing.
As an artist, I think it's a fantastic idea to ad to a CV when looking for a job in the comic or animation field with a company. Artists have to eat too you know?
Load More Replies...No Bill Watterson? Dik Browne? Mort Walker? Johnny Hart? Bill Mauldin? Hal Foster? Gary Larson? Al Capp? Crockett Johnson? Scott Adams? Maybe he will do a Volume II.
It's a pity that he didn't do Jean Chalopin of Ulysses 31. Excellent otherwise though.
Okay, this is amazing and all. But I'm looking for a certain cartoon style that he could possibly draw it, sadlyyyy it wasn't there so I'm kinda sad buuut STILL AMAZING ANYWAYS! This is a requirement of an artists if he/she wants to get a job. And I so need it.
