Canadians In Quarantine – Documenting The Covid-19 Stay At Home Initiative

Photography is who I am. Not only do I run a full time portrait business in Niagara on the Lake Ontario- I also really really love what I do.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, my business – like many small businesses is on on ‘pause’.

I am using this break, to safely document families in the Niagara Region in Quarantine. I am volunteering my time in my community to lift spirits the only way I know how – by photographing them.

I have spent the past week driving around my city, photographing friends, new friends and my own family. I love what I am seeing. I am seeing families taking a mandatory ‘break’ from reality. Mothers and Fathers home, families connecting and enjoying each other, dogs being loved and walked a bit more – and everyone in good spirits as together we try to crush the curve.

There is no doubt that families are and will be struggling as small businesses (such as my portrait studio) have temporarily been ordered to close. Restaurants, stylists and shops have closed and people in my tourism driven city are laid off from working at the usually bustling casino and sold out hotels – however despite the challenge we are all facing – we have to remember are in it together.

I have been a photographer for over 20 years, and my journey has been an interesting one. My portrait business has taken me around the world and I am fortunate to have a list of celebrity clients that I often visit, and have become friends with. However – during this time, there is no place I would rather be – than serving my community here at home.

All images taken from a very safe distance.

Walkers and joggers come closer to the home than I am…

All images taken with a 200mm lens, from my car – parked across the street from the homes – at least 40 plus feet away. Very very far away social distancing in effect.
