Some countries build walls, while others prefer building something a bit different. Giant moose statues, for example. Such countries are Canada and Norway. But despite it sounding so wholesome and innocent, it actually stirred up a competition between these two countries. A fierce competition. A competition that lead to an international feud over whose statue is bigger and thus, the biggest in the whole world. No matter how polite and peaceful these nations are, the moose question is serious and both of the countries are ready to engage in the war of enlarging their moose, while the world watches, happy and amoosed.
The majestic animal of the North, the moose, recently became the object of an unusual quarrel
The thing is, for over 30 years, Moose Jaw, a Canadian town, had been proud of having the world’s tallest moose statue
Reaching 32 feet (9.8 m) and weighing almost 10 tons, Mac The Moose, stood tall in its glory
But then this guy, Storelgen, showed up in Norway and Mac The Moose was thrust out of the spotlight
The Norwegian competitor is only 12 inches (30 centimeters) taller, yet that was enough to be number one
Today, ghostly looking Storelgen calmly reflects the Norwegian woods that surround him
The news reached the headlines pretty fast

But Canadians did not let it go that easily

Mac the Moose even got himself a Twitter account

Then more people started picking sides

Stephen Colbert sided with Norway by calling the Canadian moose a “papier-mache dog from an abandoned theme park”
But, being one of the friendliest countries on Earth, Norwegians themselves voted that they prefer Mac the Moose in a Norwegian newspaper poll
People enjoyed this rivalry
Which one’s your favourite?

Share on FacebookI'm Norwegian, and I like the Canadian one. It looks like it has fur. It's cute
Load More Replies...I don't like where this is going... this is all a facade so Canada can build a Trojan moose in plain sight and begin prep for invading the USA.
I feel like I need to comment on this on behalf of all the canadians who sadly are dying from laughing too hard at this...
Load More Replies...Well, isn't the Norway one actually an "Eurasian elk" (Alces alces), while the one in Canada a "Western moose" (Alces alces andersoni)? As such, I posit that those are different animals (something borne out by morphological differences in the skull and antlers as well as a different number of chromosomes, even though hybridization is still possible between the different sub-species) and each statue represents the tallest effigy of it's kind. This way, everyone wins - the Canadians have the largest moose, and the Norwegians have the largest Eurasian elk in the world.
Well yeah, how could anyone possibly miss that.
Load More Replies...And ours looks like they made it out of moose droppings...
Load More Replies...We should send military advisors to Canada right now! If those damn Norwegians aren't stopped now this could domino to the rest of those bloodthirsty Scandinavian countries.
I like Mac the Moose, more realistic colors and was the original giant moose. Besides, 12in taller is just a slap in the face
we accidentally met the silver moose on our way to Trondheim. On our way back we took some extra time to take a closer look, it was fantastic! its so surreal to see a huge *silver* moose standing in the middle of the woods :-D
In this thread: Norwegians going, "Man, did you see how adorably-old-school and just nifty that Canadian moose is?" and Canadians going, "That Norwegian moose is just awesome af!"
Will we even be able to see Storelgen when it is surrounded by snow? I am thinking that Its shiny surface will reflect the white snow and we won't be able to see it ... and if the sun shines on it, we'll all go blind.
Make that Mohawk 13 inches tall and get the title back!

I'm Canadian and I love our moose but Norway's moose is pretty sweet.
I'm a Mac the Moose fan. Storelgen looks impressive in all his silver might, but I've never seen a moose that colour and Mac looks the part. Come to think of it, I've never seen a moose that big/large/tall as Mac or Storelgen??? Okay, now I'm conufused...
I've been to Moose Jaw three times and have never seen this statue. Not sure where it is. I have to admit, the Norwegian one looks better.
I don't understand why we want to build a taller one to beat them out - then they're just going to make another one and it'll just be good money after bad trying to out-moose each other. What we should do is make another moose exactly the same height and then any time anyone is talking about the world's tallest moose ('cause that comes up a lot) they have to mention both of us. Win-win!
Really, the Canadian moose looks like an elementary school project, seriously. The Norwegian moose looks like he works out 4 times a day! and TONS shinier! The name is even cooler- Storelgen- Mac sounds like a puppy, not a mighty moose!
Wouldn’t the silver one reflect sun into your eyes whenever you go by it?
