I Make Models Disappear Into Their Surroundings By Painting On Them, And You Will Need To Look Twice

I’m Vilija Vitkute, a 26 years old multi-talented artist, mostly known as body painter from Lithuania/Sweden. I dedicated my life to art and nature. I work as a professional artist around the world.

Inspired by nature in Scandinavia and Alps, in three years I created camouflage bodypainting and photography series called “The Landscapes Within”. These artworks talk about the human relationship with nature, melting in it and becoming one with Mother Earth. Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.

I believe it’s time to give and to be thankful for nature after all it has done and given to us. We need to care more about it and its colorful future. We need to connect with it more, especially now, during climate change. Because we are the nature. A phrase we often use “humans and nature” is wrong – we are one and that’s what I want to show in these artworks. I hope to bring this message on a deep emotional level and make people realize it – that’s the power of art.

For me, the greatest artist of all time is the nature. I recreate the surrounding environment on a human body, which from a certain perspective allows them to almost perfectly disappear into that environment.

In result, these artworks will be presented in exhibitions, there are some prints already available for sale and a calendar will be released in 2020. One smaller exhibition is currently open in Norway Lofoten Islands at Klatrekaféen i Henningsvær and available for people to see all year around.

For this project, I choose models that have a connection with nature and a strong willpower. After all, we love challenges. Creating something different makes me extremely happy

Such painting requires me to be fully focused and perfectly research the right place, person, light, wind and time. Trying to match colors and textures takes a lot of attention. Also, I must paint very fast because the model can’t stay in the same position for too long, especially when we are outside battling with the weather and harsh conditions. Even though I know tricks and tips about breathing and meditation every model can use to stay still and don’t get cold.
