By now, most people have heard of honesty libraries, and you have probably encountered at least one of them before. The woman was very fascinated with the idea, saying that instead of honesty libraries, we should have cake fridges, starting a massive discussion
The cake fridge had already been around for a good while before it went viral online when the X (Twitter) user TheSassyBirdie saw it featured in the Scottish crime drama TV series Shetland, which mostly takes place in the Shetland Islands, Scotland.
Fascinated by this idea, the woman did some research and found out that the featured honesty cake fridge was, in fact, not just a piece of fiction but a very real thing. This led her to make a viral post, sharing her revelation and asking why we are messing around with free libraries when we could have this instead.

The post, which was viewed around 234,000 times, was followed by a massive discussion in the comment section. Many people there were just as in love with the idea as the poster herself, asking for the location and more information. At the same time, others shared about other similarly functioning fridges and boxes that are used for milk, eggs, meat, and other things.
While some of the commenters suggested replacing honesty libraries with cake fridges, a few more critical thinkers pointed out that this would be very difficult to achieve in bigger cities, as, despite the fridge being watched over by CCTV, there would still be chaos.

The actual episode that first introduced the rest of the world to the recently turned-famous cake fridge aired over 2 years ago. It was quickly followed up by a proud post from the A Taste Of Shetland organization, giving a closer look at The Original Cake Fridge, its owner, and her team.
According to its social media profiles, the business has been running since early 2018, and its activity has not fallen one bit since. Their fridges are replenished daily, so you can be sure to always find some fresh desserts made from local produce waiting for you. They also have a lovely tea room and a cafe where their customers can linger for a little while longer if they didn’t pop by for just a quick stop.

The Original Cake Fridge is part of a bigger organization called A Taste Of Shetland, which we briefly mentioned earlier. Proud of their island group, which is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful in the world, the organization aims to promote Shetland’s food and drink companies and products to the world, as well as help the development of their markets outside of the islands.

In the end, Shetland sounds like a wonderful place to visit or even live in. The scenery, the community, and the wide variety of food sure do make some very tempting promises. And the honesty cake fridges? Well, that’s probably the most fantastic cherry on top that you could ask for.

Thanks! Check out the results:
I had an honesty pot for my eggs and other produce. Some bloke kept taking a dozen eggs and leaving a handful of Quavers. I let him a note saying, 'Dear whomever keeps leaving Quavers in lieu of payment. As I cannot eat your unsanitary offerings (due to them being drooped into a pot containing loose change and being unsealed), would you either stop leaving them, or at least leave a whole packet. Kind regards.' The next week they had left 5 multipacks. That's 120 packs of quavers!
Scottish Egg = egg from Scotland. Scotch egg = boiled egg surrounded by spiced pork covered in breadcrumbs.
