110 Epic Photos From Burning Man 2018 That Prove It’s The Craziest Festival In The World
What was once a genuinely radical festival, based on principles of inclusion, decommodification, self-reliance and communal effort, Burning Man festival has changed somewhat.
With your average person in Burning Man's 2018 edition needing to shell out $1500 over the course of the art festival, 'escaping capitalism' in order to rub shoulders with spaced out Silicon Valley brogrammers and pseudo-bohemian billionaires doesn't come cheap for the opportunity to capture the most amazing pictures for your Instagram.
Of course, there is still a large core of regulars and those who attend in the true spirit of the Buring Man festival, the installations are pretty amazing, and the atmosphere is as intense as ever. Those that we mostly see however are the same old Instagram influencers, whose habit of taking similarly posed photos can make even an event like this seem like we've seen it all before.
Luckily, we here at Bored Panda have managed to compile a list of awesome Burning Man photos from this years event, scroll down below to check them out for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments!

Everything and all photos are amazing, but(t) this one made me laugh :))
Could I just point out that if wasn't taken at Burning Man, and was like an ad for a magazine or something people would be saying "This is cultural appropriation!!"
I hate the term "Cultural Appropriation" - complete overkill! what on earth is wrong with appreciating some some aspects of other cultures traditions, dress. and ornamentation. Put bluntly - do you criticise the Japanese for adopting western dress and insist they should keep to the Kimono? Should Hawaiians have to continue wearing grass skirts? Should those of African origin be made to wear their tribal dress or be allowed to "culturally appropriate" western styles when they so wish. Likewise, when those from the 1st world appreciale and admire another more ancient culture, what is wrong with paying tribute to it's beauty by adopting some of it's lost traditions?
Load More Replies...We condemn the appropriation of Native American headdress at the festival event. This woman is obviously clueless in her pursuit of being something “hip”. Shame on her!
Love the sculpture and the pose of the girl. The photo has great energy and flow. I'm a bit iffy on her outfit though.
That's a steel horse.. in the sun.. hotter than hell I'd think.. but amazing picture!
What I don't get, from all the people defending their right to wear things like war bonnets, is why are you so dismissive of the fact that people from that culture say it hurts and disrespects them? What happened to your compassion and empathy? Can you really not imagine what it's like to witness an entire group of people, whose ancestors committed genocide against yours, wear your religious symbols as party favours? Can you really not?
Appropriation of other cultures traditional headwear (war bonnet) is NOT sexy
War bonnet as fashion statement really needs to stop. The war bonnet is an artifact of high spiritual and cultural importance to First Nations. You don't just plop it atop your head for an Instagram shot--you must earn it, and be given the honor of wearing it. Why do these a******s continually need to be told this? It's not fashion, fools. Don't treat it as if it is.
Just a little bit) but for such a nice result I would do even more
Load More Replies...Not epic - how many times have the First People asked us NOT to wear war bonnets?
Stupid b culturally appropriating Native Americans! What do Native Americans have to do with music festivals?
Cultural appropriation and MOOP in one photo. Burning Man is dead.
I'm kinda sad about this one... Another image of cultural appropriation...
How do you know she's white? True, only me wore war bonnets, but that's not racism or appropriation.
A Native girl would have the sense not to treat a war bonnet in such a flippant and disrespectful fashion.
Load More Replies...This looks great! Experiencing the inside in real life must be pretty amazing
If she does not put sun block on it is going to be called Burning Lady
That red is really popping- gorgeous portrait - she has a lovely relaxed and friendly expression
So I'm thinking Burning Man is for female models in their early 20's with a liking towards spacey futuristic clothing made out of very small pieces of fabric.
Oh. So when they installed it the orb was a mirror, but several days in it got covered in dust. They forgot to coat the thing to avoid static electricity.
Epic selfie! I admit, if I was there I'd be taking ridiculous amounts of images as well. The setting and atmosphere is completely alluring to my aesthetic sensibilities- I just couldn't handle the gritty accommodations. Maybe when I was 20....alas those days are gone.
This should be the poster of a cyberpunk or steampunk movie
I love the art work but burning man has changed so much that I kind of feel it is a wannabe bohemian festival now along the lines of Coachella in many ways. I am sure that there are those that keep the spirit of it alive but it seems that now it is more stylized with the costumes and poses. sad to see it happen to this event.
So its like Mad Max but with a seething hive of modern, attractive, half naked hipsters wearing goggles...I'll stay at home ;)
just shell out 1000k to join the "radically inclusive hippies" in a smelly, dust infested desert scorching hot with porta potties with people who aren't really radically inclusive because only hot models can go lmao
Load More Replies...So where do they keep the ugly ones? Every time I see photos from Burning Man it is of 'beautiful' people wearing costumes...I have no idea what they do when they get there. Look at one another?
Obviously all the ugly people get run off the road before they get there. This post has really upset me, I thought (through no first/second hand experience) that burning man was for people to get away from modern life and embrace life and art and whatever you want. Looking at this it's full of poseurs pressuring people to look great.....
These are just Instagram photos from popular accounts though. They aren’t representative of the entire experience.

I'd like to see the festival artwork and even the work and party ambiance. However there are only models posing, not always in worked dresses neither interesting poses, that hide the festival work.
Load More Replies...Whatever the festival used to be, it looks more like a parade for narcissists with some cool sculpture.
some folks must spend the whole year on getting ready for this -- sad
Load More Replies...My thought is that it is obviously for the wealthy, and there seems to be very little except posing and pretending to have a bohemian relationship with art and nature. The lack of real people is painfully obvious also.
Once a crazy festival, now a 15 minute pit stop for celebrities and models to take a few photos and move on
But BP could have chosen other kind of photos, or they don't exist anymore?
Load More Replies...You could go there and just "people watch." Or you could save your money and just go to your nearest Walmart. Lol
Load More Replies...Much too precious and image-conscious. I prefer people that don't do all that "look at me! I'm weird and special!"
My cousin, who is a firefighter, goes to this every year. Now I know why; it's gorgeous and after a year of a stressful, dangerous work environment he needs that kind of wild escape!
1500$... I can eat a f*****g lot for a month. Pay for netflix and donate rest of the money to charity.. that would be better option.
I like the pictures, every one of them! What a delight! the people are models, so what? there are another sets, different style, showing everything else. this artist shows the fest like he sees it and I like the elaborate selection of clothes, style, combinations, pretty faces and beautiful figures. Of course, this all can not outshine the Burning Man constructions, which I love, and the spirit of the event. Wish I could go there..
Thanks for being so kind. So many haters on here.
Load More Replies...Thank you Panda for another year glimpse of a marvelous creative festival...keep it up! This thing is beyond belief, and while I cannot attend in person, I appreciate the glimpse of what folks can come up with in trying to outdo each other in the attention contest.
OK. I want to know what happens to all these awesome sculptures when the festival is ended for the year.
It's just a pack of instagramers posing the reel has like 8 people that are repeated in every picture. It's the opposite of burning man was about. The beauty of soul and expression through art, everyone was deemed beautiful because we all share humanity. Not this posing hipster b******t where the average age was 19, rich brats with 0 personality. Thanks for ruining art for everyone!
I'd like to challenge all partisipants to wear something super normal next year. You're bold enough to have your vagina hang out (your body your choice) or boast some crazy accessories, but are you bold enough to post a mundane outfit from say event on Instagram...? Way to find out if your followers are there just for the tits, ey? If not for fun the for the sake of not teaching our kids the only way to get followers (=be accepted in this social media driven society) is to take your clothes off #burningmanchallenge
why the f**k would these idiots take their young child to this thing
Cuz what more perfect of an Instragramable accessory than a young child, no matter how dangerous? think of all the likes!
Load More Replies...Why do those models go to an art festival? They can pose in deserts or other wild landscapes all over the year, without bothering artists and public.
it's like F1 - they need half-dressed models to get em off the pit lane - and hold the brollys
Load More Replies...I enjoy models in skimpy clothes but....... If I was someone who had taken all the time and effort to make one of those structures and somebody with a bikini and some weird accessories got all the attention I'd be pissed.
I made the sculpture in the background of image 81, and yes.. the focus on the skinny girl is a bit ridiculous. It's so conventional- you skinny models can (and do) have your photos taken anywhere you like. Please take your instagram accounts and your photographers back to the abandoned factories and nightclubs where you belong. You show up at sculptures, ask participants to move out of the way so you can take your picture, and leave without any meaningful interaction at all, neither with the art nor with other humans. You are a new and narcissistic plague at Burning Man. Please stay at Coachella. Thanks
Load More Replies...You all are looking way to deep into this. The burning man is about coming together and showing your art and your appreciation for other people’s art. It doesn’t matter how you look. No one cares how you look. They just want to see art, make new friends, and have a great time. You don’t have to be a “hot model” to go. Anyone can go. I wouldn’t suggest any of you with the bad attitudes because your just rude, judgmental people and they wouldn’t want you there. It’s art and artistic people. And it’s people like you who have to say mean things that don’t truly belong anywhere. Didn’t your mama ever teach you If you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all? So just shut up and let people be.
So many of you are thinking way too deeply about this. The burning man is about showing art in different forms, it’s about coming together and appreciating each others art. Everyone is welcome. If you wanted to go then just go. They are people. You don’t have to be overweight or fat to make things normal. So if you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all. Didn’t your mama ever teach you that? Be respectful to all. They have done nothing wrong to you and you’re just judging them. If this is how you treat people then I’m glad you didn’t go because you don’t deserve to go especially with all your bad attitudes.
What is the purpose of this event? Is it a place you go to get crazy high and tripped out by all the sights?
That's got to stink to high heaven - B.O., pot, puke, and poop...Sand and latex... Wear.Sunscreen ... These are the thoughts I have while viewing these pictures.
I enjoy seeing the sights without the discomforts, so thanks to all the photographers
Load More Replies...This would be my personal Hell, lol. I can not stand the sun, or heat, or dusty sand in/on my face or body....The art is amazing though
Same. I went to Scotland and complained because it was too sunny, lol!
Load More Replies...It’s like they put a call into IMG and every half baked derivative artist.
I would adore to see some of this artwork face-to-face - incredibly impressive. The photographs are enough (the ones without models). Were I to go ni person I would feel obliged to wear a bag over my head or a Dhorkha because I wasnt worthy of the beautiful people who dont really appreciate art anyway
This must have been birthed by the Kinetic Sculpture madfolks of Arkata California who made a multi-dimensional leap. Both an expression of and a total co-option at the same time. Cost factor is the give-away.
Its no longer what it used to be and will never go back to being what its original intent was. Sad! Burning Man hasn't been safe for about 25 years (3 friends who've worked security at burning man since 1993)
They use models on purpose. They don't take pics from normal looking ppl
Looks cool, but no wonder why a lot non-western people thinks west is decadent and decaying.
I agree with the spirit of your complaint but, what stars? They are pretty people, not famous. Right? I didn’t see anyone famous.
Load More Replies...Bored white kids with too much time and money. Sprinkle in a few coloured people and a lot of exhibitionism.
monetized, co-opted, privileged people's party.....................no thanks
Gentrification, the festival! You must be this rich and beautiful to attend.
You can attend and enjoy all the fun.....what you suggest is just for getting lots of views on internet.
Load More Replies...I have always wanted to go to the Burning Man, but even plane tickets to the USA are hella expensive, let alone all this stuff. But I have to admit that now I feel like everyone else in there would be Victoria's secret models and now I feel little bit less like going in there
Oh, I thought you were going to say "and now I'll go to victoria's secret show" ;)
Load More Replies...It's kind of amazing how creative expression and genuine freedom makes everyone beautiful. Age, color, race... all get covered up in dust. And you sweat so hard getting ready for the event you get skinny just getting ready... it is magic
The models spoil it. Some of this is absolute rubbish. Art by billionaires. Yeah okay mate
So its like Mad Max but with a seething hive of modern, attractive, half naked hipsters wearing goggles...I'll stay at home ;)
