Parents Can’t Afford To Rent A Gown For Girl’s Prom, Brother Steps Up And Makes Her One Instead
The love and support between siblings can take many forms. Like making them a cup of hot cocoa after a long day at school. Or hiding a plastic spider underneath their covers to distract them from their worries. But some siblings go above and beyond the call of duty.
Meet Maverick Francisco Oyao from the Philippines who designed and created a fabulous winter ball gown for his sister Lu Asey’s prom night. Photos of the beautiful dress are now going viral online.
When you’re done with this post, check out Bored Panda’s article about a high school student from the Philippines, Ciara Gan, who painted her very own prom dress that took a month to design and make.

Their family couldn’t afford a dress, so Mave took it upon himself to make his sister happy

Mave from Zamboanga City undertook the fashion design project when he learned that his sister wanted to attend her school’s Junior and Senior prom in February. However, ball gowns are incredibly expensive and their family couldn’t afford to rent a dress.
You can watch a video that shows the dress in more detail right here
So Mave took it upon himself to make her happy, literally crafting the gown design with his bare hands. He even painted part of the dress to create a unique and stylish piece of clothing! The prom happened on Valentine’s Day, so the dress design was a perfect example of brotherly love for the occasion.

The brother even joked that he’d avoid getting married just so he could support his sister in the future. Mave drew inspiration from ball dresses and other clothes designs, “especially Michael Cinco’s spring and summer collection.” According to the brother, some people helped him out financially so he could buy the materials needed to finish the dress.
Here’s a video of how Mave’s sister looks wearing the dress
Funnily enough, Mave isn’t a fashion designer by trade. He told curious internet users that he was studying culture and arts education at university. He also revealed that it took him around a week and a half to finish the dress.
Unfortunately, Mave’s sister didn’t win the Best Dress award at the school prom. But they were both happy with the end result. Even though some internet users commenting on the dress suggested that it would have looked better with a few minor changes.
As photos of the dress went viral, some people couldn’t help but compliment Mave’s handiwork
Are you kidding me? I could barely put together a pillow in my sewing class (that's four pieces of fabric folks). And this child is creating couture gowns? Someone snatch him up and give him a fashion design career...quick! Absolutely beautiful work, I mean look at those flowers!
Um ... FOUR pieces of fabric? For a pillow?

Renting dresses can be very expensive. Sometimes you have to put down a hefty deposit so the shop can cover itself just in case the dress doesn't come back and if you don't bring it back in A1 pristine condition you have to stump up the rest of the money after the deposit which you will have lost to cover the full cost of the dress and that will include the profit the shop makes on the dress.

I can see a future for him making costumes for all of the big studios in Hollywood someday!
Beautiful, just beautiful. Love for a sister and her fairytale dress. Keep on designing young man. Mad skills!
At first glance at the dress (before reading the details), I immediately thought of my country, the Philippines. It does look too much for a prom dress but the effort given to it is highly commendable and if my brother made such kind of dress, I won't really care if it looks too much for the occasion. I'd definitely show off as it's my brother's love for me. On the other hand, dresses like this are kind of common when there are special celebrations especially festivals.... I think every major festival in our country has festival queens and it's always a great time to showcase the talents of amateur designers..... I won't be surprised if this cool brother chooses to be a designer for festival dresses in the future.
I think that the brother did an excellent job on this dress and I think that was so sweet of him to do this for his sister. He has a future in fashion design.
Mave has mad skills! The wide range of artistic abilities needed to create this gown are amazing. Many people don't realize that more than an illustrated design is needed. It looks pretty, but to construct the dress, the basic design has to be deconstruced and seams, tucks, decor placement etc. have to be added. Getting the skirt to bell like that is an incredible achievement.
It looks like it'd be a bit difficult to walk in, but otherwise, this is stunning work! And it's so touching hearing about a brother who really cares
I've never heard of renting dresses. I've heard of renting tuxes but not dresses. Seems like a waste now considering how many dresses my parents had to buy me over the years of all the formal dances I went to in H.S. Some of these dresses were almost $200 for prom. Homecoming a little cheaper around $100-120. Worn once. And that was 20 years ago!
Wow, it's beautiful. What a lucky sister to have such a caring a talented brother.
What an amazing thing for a brother to do! Granted, it's a little over the top for my taste, but I imagine it was her every dream come true. You're going places, kid!
You are very kind to do something like that for your sister. I bet she was very happy because you did the for her.♥️ Brother & Sister POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!♥️
Sibling rivalry just became a team sport with this brother and sister as front-runners!
WOW! The design is flawless, inspiring and simply amazing!! He should be very proud of the job he did and his sister should be proud of her brother! He did an amazing job on that dress. Yes, I agree, he should have his own design line of women and mens clothing! He would be rich in a year! Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. The best of luck in your futures kids!
This doesn't make sense. As a dressmaker the cost of all that fabric alone never mind all the other notions required well exceeds the cost of dress hire.
looks like same girl and similar dress to a previous story.. Maybe she and her brother both create ball gowns???
looks very much like the same girl and very similar dress to previous story about a girl who makes graduation dress....
A really fond and commendable brother! But I don't know how aesthetically acceptable the result is. For the Philippines, maybe it's the best.
what the hell "aesthetically acceptable" means? you don't have to like it, but you know what they say, taste is like a*s, everyone has their own...

In India the older brothers wear a string around their wrist that symbolizes he will care for his younger sister until she marries or dies. You'll never find that here. Love the dress too!!!
You'll never find that here? Of course you bloody wouldn't and wow I wish I had time and space to disseminate that ridiculous comment.
