They are doing it on purpose you know. The sly folk over at PETA have become famous for their controversial campaigns, which almost always result in them being roundly mocked online. But they don’t care. In fact, they actually kinda like it. Because for this attention-seeking organization any publicity is good publicity.

“PETA is known for causing a stir on Twitter if it means sticking up for animals,” they wrote in a smug article about their latest ‘success.’ “In just the last few months, our viral tweets about animal-friendly expressions and Steve Irwin’s legacy of tormenting wildlife have led millions to challenge their long-held speciesist beliefs and made countless people consider—some perhaps for the first time—that animals have a right to live free from human harassment and exploitation.”
This time, PETA got tongues wagging by tweeting a cartoon of a cow breastfeeding an old man. “Looks weird right?” They wrote. “It’s what you’re doing if you drink cow’s milk. Raise your hand if you know that humans shouldn’t be drinking cow’s breast milk. It was made for their babies — not you!”
Predictably, people reacted with derision and outrage. But PETA don’t care. They got their moment, and they helpfully explained their motives in the aforementioned article. “On social media, PETA uses evocative, emotional messaging, as we have mere seconds to stand out from the feed and grab people’s attention,” they wrote. “We see every interaction on social media as an opportunity to reach people, including those who may never have considered whether it’s unnatural to forcibly impregnate mother cows and steal the milk meant for their babies or for humans to drink milk as adults.”

So I guess we are all guilty of doing PETA’s dirty work, and all the mocking in the world won’t make a darned bit of difference. If only they spent as much time and effort making a positive difference, rather than churning out one ‘controversy’ after another.

Perhaps the best thing to do is simply ignore them. It’s a little difficult though when people’s responses are this witty and clever.

“WE ARE ARTISTS. WE ARE ACTIVISTS,” they write. “Everything is CREATED in balance and just as one can CREATE, one can destroy. BISON is consciousness to protect life, not take it…BISON is family, regardless of difference, race or species…”

If it’s said by PETA it can be ignored. They’ve lost whatever small amount of creditibilty they ever had.

Because the people who support PETA can't see anything wrong with what they do, regardless of how hypocritical or even unethical it is. I think they justified their killing of the animals they took in with "sometimes the only kind option is to put them to sleep forever", but for some reason only PETA is allowed to have that option.

There are good reasons not to drink milk from animals... Starting with the fact that a large part of the world population cannot (properly) digest ist. But the claim is ludicrous. Domestic cows were bread to have way more milk than an army of calves can drink. Thus, argue for animal welfare, but not with absurdity if you want to make a point. (I personally only grow organic milk products for reasons of living conditions for cows, sheep.and goats.)
I've said this elsewhere so sorry for being repetitive but Lactase is the enzyme responsible for the digestion of the milk sugar lactose and its production decreases after the weaning phase in most mammals, including most humans. Some humans, however, continue to produce lactase into adulthood, a trait known as lactase persistence or LP. This was not the norm but LP is increasing. This trait has been mainly identified in dairy-producing populations and since fresh milk and some milk products are the only known naturally occurring sources of lactose, it is unlikely that LP would exist without a supply of fresh milk. The availability of fresh milk to some human groups has created a potential genetic feedback for a need of continuous lactase expression throughout adult life. However, it currently remains that most adults are naturally lactose intolerant.

I can’t stand PETA and their tactics but the truth is that technically we can’t properly digest cows or any other animals milk. But it also does have its benefits. I’m saying all that and knowing it shouldn’t be part of our diets. I still have consume products with cow milk in it and have flavoured milk.

Just jail time and all sorts of legal problems for me. That's when I learned they were not worth the air they breathe.
Well, cows were taken care of by humans for thousands of years. I'm no expert, but I think that dairy breeds probably lactate excessively and need help by humans in order to not get sick by all the milk they produce. I mean, you can't convince me a calf is capable of drinking 5 litres of milk every single day during the period the mother cow is lactating. Cows were domesticated and are very different from their wild ancestors. They can't survive alone. It's the ways milk is industrially produced that have to be blamed. Cows are not supposed to live in such conditions and in such vast quantities. A billion cows is too many for our Earth to handle.
PETA would be such a joke, if they weren't also disgusting pet murderers.
First of all, you'd have to redraw the picture with the man drinking from an udder. Cows don't have boobs so that invalidates your point. Then, you need to say what's wrong about it. Honestly, I swear whoever's running this twitter is incredibly stupid.
They...did say what's wrong with it?? Look at the tweet maybe? (disclaimer: i am not a PETA supporter)

While I won’t deny that, once upon a time, PETA may have made a positive impact (probably in spite of themselves, tho) by getting people to at least become aware of what goes on when we consume animal products, which led to more humane conditions for animals and so forth...it seems that day has long passed. Now they’re just seemingly being confrontational and dickish in their approach... I hope the realise that, now, every time they open their collective “holier than thou” mouths, they are helping the same industries they are trying to quash. Seeing as many people now purposely do the opposite of what they ask us not to do. Ben Smith is correct in saying that PETA has lost whatever credibility they may have once had. Sorry, Morrissey, Ricky Gervais, Alec Baldwin, et al...you need to support the ASPCA or some other animal rights organisation because PETA is a joke.
This will give PETA a clear conscience when the start killing cows and dumping the carcasses in an alley behind their buildings
Dear PETA, By humanifying an animal to state a point, doesn't state the point at all, it just sexualises the animal in a creepy human way. I guess the whole weird part of this whole shenanigan is that PETA needs to visit a psychiatrist and just declare bankruptcy. That would be the best!
Take away the description, and it becomes a political cartoon commenting on how politicians are sucking on the teats of Big Dairy!
Wow. First PETA insults Steve Irwin, now they be creating creepy propaganda campaigns. I'm beginning to think that all of PETA's staff are mental asylum escapees. You'd think that they'd know that they're on thin ice after what they said about the late great Steve Irwin.
I get what they're saying but it is obviously wrong. Drinking milk isn't the same as sucking it from a teet. Just as those people who drink their own urine (not me!) isn't the same as sucking it from a meaty truncheon.

Oh great, you just gave them even more publicity and free advertising. Brilliant.
If they had just drawn a normal cow it would maybe be poignant in that uncomfortable way. Somehow, the cow being a humanoid makes it MORE okay. Old dude makes it weird but, I reason, you can make ANYTHING look weird if it's an old man doing it, except shuffleboard or angrily reading the newspaper. They just don't know how to get the whole 'uncomfortable truth' thing right; PETA so badly wishes it was ASPCA. I don't drink milk, but damn PETA and I are not on the same page here lol. But I guess if you they so desperately want attention regardless of what kind of attention it is, PETA's got SOMETHING going for them.
I honestly don't care if it's "natural". Cooking food and living in houses with plumbing and electricity are not "natural" either. Nor are vaccines but people should still advocate them. "Natural" doesn't necessarily mean "good".

I really despise PETA, but they have a point with this one. If you don't regularly think about the fact that you are consuming baby milk from a different species when you consume dairy products, then you are not fully conscious. It really is very weird and kind of disgusting. I suspect it isn't particularly good for us. Having said that, I absolutely LOVE cheese. I tried to go without it for a year. I was depressed and unhappy for a year.
They actually have a point though. In rural Japan where no one drinks cow's milk, breast-cancer is almost non-existent. it's to do with hormones which are designed to help the calf grow, (Look up professor Jane Plant.) Milk causes greasy skin in a lot of ppl. There are many dodgy facts about the stuff! I can't give up eating cheese now and again tho!! Love soya milk tho.
These babies are about to have their throats slit so humans can eat cheese and other products made from the milk that by God was intended for their nourishment. https://youtu.be/8KMhb-qHedI

Those cows had beautiful lives, Tasmanian grass and air and acres to roam. I buy branded milk to support dairy farmers over supermarkets. Come for the dairy farmers and I will defend them. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
I don't see why it's controversial. I mean, it's exactly what we are doing to cows... We even make them reproduce so they lactate and we kill their calves after depriving them of the milk they should drink. So, yeah, really don't see how it is controversial. Oh wait, no, I know in fact. Humans are the kind of things that like to take everything but hate when their head is put in their s**t.
